it's more fun to emulate

they definitely wouldn’t be able to call this approach a “JIT” on 4mhz otherwise

I am surprised to discover that the new 3DS XL is not that great at emulating earlier nintendo consoles. I can’t get DOSbox to run at a decent speed either, but that’s not another thing.

Did anyone ever make a Virtual Boy emulator for it?

it looks like it!

Yeah the 3DS is much more primitive hardware than smartphones released around the same time (2011).
It’s too special-purpose to run emulators: software is forced to lean into the natural tendencies of the hardware to get acceptable performance. And also for reasons related to its primitiveness, newer revs since 2011 aren’t any faster (just better battery life and compactness).

In 2011 it still seemed reasonable for Nintendo to follow their “lateral thinking with seasoned technology” philosophy for cost and battery life, which had consistently dispatched competitors like Game Gear, N-Gage etc for decades. Although I gather they regretted it this time.

Is this the thread where I can ask for guidance on turning my PS3 into a retroemulation box?

I’d love to:

  • Get my PS4 controllers working on it like normal w/ bluetooth and full button functionality
  • Install my PS3 disc games
  • Download updates for PS3 disc games
  • Play PS2/PSP/SNES/Genny/etc. games
  • Not be banned for when I inevitably wanna download all the PSPlus games I’ve accumulated but also have a HAXXED PS3

probably more appropriate to Console Modding - let the lame tuning begin
i can’t help personally as the last time i messed with a ps3 i bricked it

I an seriously thinking to emulate the first Umihara Kawase. I have been playing the port on PS Vita, it feels great but it’s difficult to accept to starrt over every time I am out of lives. Do I risk to spoil the game, if I use save states on an emulator?

I wouldn’t save scum a ton. But maybe do a save at the start of a stage. Though I don’t know how long they are in the vita version. But yeah maybe treat it as a continue system or something if you can obey your own rules.

I would start with a save state on field 11(try to reach it as quickly as you can, you want to avoid being sent to f28 later on by the 30-minute rule), this is where the game starts to branch out, you only risk spoiling the bit of exploration there is. I would also create another save state after the field 8 boss(f25 and f49 are the only fun bosses in the entire series imo)

I’m not feeling that interpretation of Digdogger.

I feel like it misses the apocalyptic vibe of the original. Like, Link’s first sword is wood and it’s a unique artifact. The most powerful sword in the world isn’t an magical talisman: it’s made of metal.

People live alone in bare caves with fires burning on the floor. The only man-made landmarks that remain are tombstones and monster-infested ruins. There’s no grass anywhere.

This pack is clearly inspired by A Link to the Past, which is about a world in danger. LoZ’s world isn’t in danger – it’s already been completely lost and we’re just fighting to determine whether things get much worse.
