If you’re CRT is YPbPr capable, get a cheap HDMI → component box. Quality is very good and they can generate the correct sync signals as well as operate in 480i (which hats aren’t capable of). You can re-tool any of the distributions for CRT use by modifying the appropriate lines in the config.txt to redirect video output back to the HDMI port.
he’s right, but I don’t know exactly how much work this implies
(the correct choice is to maintain a windows install with an ATI card)
Preemptively letting you all know I bought the stuff to set up a Pi 4, and I will probably be losing my mind and coming in here trying to figure shit out.
Well folks I’ve been emulating. Which is really to say I’ve been desperately trying to set up emulators on two different devices when my PC, which does it all fine, is right there.
So!
Pi 4: Driving myself nuts trying to scrape little videos in place of box art. Sometimes it works! For some consoles! Just not the rest.
Did get me to brush up on my command line skills just a touch.
Oh and uhhh I played some Parodius. So that works.
PocketGo V2: I was trying my best to be super careful to back everything that was on the card up before flashing newer firmware to it. Mostly so I wouldn’t need to hunt down emulators, but also because it had some ancient software on it I probably wouldn’t be able to find later, in this format. Some Beats of Rage packs, Streets of Rage Remake. That sorta thing.
Well I lost those Beats of Rage packs, but the rest still works.
The analog stick on this thing is crunchy and hateful. Otherwise it seems OK?
Not sure how or when Bloody Roar 2 became the benchmark game for PSOne emulation, but I guess this thing can’t really cut it. Runs Evil Zone pretty well, though!
Anyway I also played Parodius on this. And, uh, some Splatterhouse 3.
Probably need to overclock my Pi to get better N64 and Dreamcast performance. Really hope I don’t fuck it up!
It’s finally time to announce the official testing period for the Glk engine in ScummVM, for playing interactive fiction (aka text adventures). This is a comglomoration of sub-engines for playing the games that use the various authoring systems released over the years. At this time the following sub-engines are going into official testing mode:
ADRIFT (except for version 5)
ADVSYS
AGT
Alan 2 & 3
Archetype (newly reimplemented for Glk from the original Pascal sources)
Frotz (all ZCode games except the Infocom graphical version 6 games)
Hugo
JACL
Level 9
Magnetic Scrolls
Quest
Scott Adams
Other sub-engines, such as Comprehend, TADS and Quill, are likely to be included in the future. So those of you that are fans of the literary classics, dust off your favourite classics, and prepare to play them again You will need a daily development build. As always, please submit the bug reports to our issue tracker.
I cannot get Dolphin to render a centered image on my monitor. It’s offset to the left and not scaling to full screen. I don’t mind the scaling so much, but the offset is driving me nuts! I tried wiping the settings and starting over from scratch. Oh well. I’ll keep playing Cubivore with my head turned slightly to the left.
There’s a specific fix that game needs turned on, I’ll look it up.
[edit] Here:
When using 16:9 mode the display is shifted to the left showing a black bar on the right hand side. This can be corrected by setting External Frame Buffer to Virtual. Fixed with Hybrid XFB in 5.0-5874.
I have a tickle in the back of my head that tells me this wasn’t it (I was juggling a Dolphin VR fork and my regular install at the same time and the settings were overwriting each other), but let me know what happens.
At some point in the next week or so we will see the release of MAME 0.223. This comes 3 and a bit years after the first Game & Watch unit was added, and with it we will have reached a point where every single Game & Watch title is represented in MAME in some form, with the final added game being Donkey Kong Hockey. MAME has taken things a step beyond by also emulating the Nintendo developed (but not Nintendo published) Bassmate Computer, which is heavily tied to the Game & Watch series in terms of technology. That will also be supported in the 0.223 release.
