it's more fun to emulate

https://pcsx2.net/

Thanks!

Does it require a bios, such as what used to happen with PS1?

And, on a different note, how is the emulation situation with PS3? I would like to play Demon’s Souls, but i only have the ps4…

Ok, all good but I have one problem: audio is not working with my external usb dac.
Any other game / emulator etc works… Is there an alternative audio plugin to SPU2-X (the standard one coming with the emulator)?

the last 24 hours truly a landmark moment in zeldonian emulation technology

edit: getting random crashes while playing nocturne, so… hmmm

afaik it did this before too

i managed a couple hundred hours of crash free nocturne on the build i was using (not an exact version number but it’s an svn from early 2017)

wonder if that’s just luck or a settings thing?

Someone took all the configuration hell and guesswork out of running a Pi with a cheap VGA666 hat and having things just work with super resolutions. Not necessarily new, but it’s new to me!

damn, does someone know offhand the best hardware to buy to make that output component video?

Unfortunately, this guy doesn’t make the RetroTINK Ultimate anymore, but he seems to have some tips for component output here.

never, not for me. at least not on 1.5.0

looks like another manufacturer has preorders up for the open source retrotink ultimate, it’s not cheap but what the hell, I got a deal on the trinitron

Yeah, it’s not cheap, but it’s worth every penny!

I keep thinking about getting a Lenovo ThinkCentre M93p Tiny its a little PC with decent specs that has native VGA output. You can get them on ebay for like 100-150

yeah, but the pi ecosystem is a lot better supported, and I needed component anyway (plus it was still <$150 for the pi and the hat)

Felix, do you have any way to grab a cheap or free CRT monitor? I guess there’s also the Wife Acceptance Factor to consider.

I got the trinitron! That’s what this is for!

Fair enough. That RetroTINK ultimate will do the job for sure.

I wouldn’t do it. I fiddled with an Acer laptop that had VGA out. It was really precarious to get everything set up just right, and it was really easy to throw the configuration out of whack. Unless you love a good tech project every time you want to play an NES rom. To be fair, that is valid.

What’s the current approach to a raspberry pi with a special hat vs a modded Wii for CRT-targeted emulation (ignoring dreamcast and saturn stuff and whatever people are claiming to be squeezing out of the 4 now)?
