Iâm almost positive yâall are just stubborn old fucks reacting to how some asshole Smash player treated you in 2006. Itâs certainly not the best community, and it gets worse the farther back in time you go.
Your analogy is an absurd reduction, which I think youâre well aware of. The randomization in Tetris is core to the game; its other mechanics are not robust enough to survive the removal of randomized piece selection.
Smash absolutely is; itâs been played for over a decade that way, with an extremely high skill cap. Your version of Tetris is trivial to play optimally.
I mean I understand overreacting to the elitism that Smash players exhume, but âfox only final destination onlyâ is a pretty tired (and inaccurate) âjokeâ. And usually I donât feel like defending Smash tournament rules because itâs tedious as fuck, as evidenced by this post, and it makes me look like an asshole by association, but here I am I guess.

Itâs too bad most Tetris rules have an even number of columns. The odd column squares-only variant would be pretty funny, because it would be impossible to clear any lines.

Yeah, itâs probably outdated, but I think everyoneâs had to sit down at one of these games that seems to ignore the bulk of what Smash is. Itâs really about annoying culture bleed in a game as wide and appealing as Smash can be.
