Thanks for posting in my thread
I’d watch the Oscars.
Top Gun for Best screenplay is a choice
at least coda can’t win again
what was the deal with that one? it seemed really… polarizing? like unlike Green Book which was pretty much universally reviled by anyone whose takes on film I more or less relate to, I feel like some people actually really liked Coda and others despised it. I mean I guess I could just watch it myself but I don’t wanna
it was fine but it was like, an after school special that they just decided to give best picture to
even normies have been thinking about all the reasons green book is dogshit every day for the last 15 years so it was just obvious, but it’s still very common for anyone who doesn’t have deaf people directly in their lives to never think about the reasons coda is dogshit at all. is my first thought
and yeah formally it’s just like. barely even a movie
caveat i work with captions/accessibility shit every day so i had to listen to all my (hearing) coworkers swooning about “representation” during oscar season last year so i was particularly grated
I used to enjoy Oscar parties with my friends every year because we all watched a bunch of movies, were mostly aspiring filmmakers, and it was a good excuse to get together and have a party. Back then, I would typically have seen most nominees by the time Oscars came around. Then I moved away and stopped having an Oscar party to go to and I fell so behind on movies that I haven’t seen a single of the best picture nominees this year (and think I’m only really interested in seeing four of them any time soon (Everything Everywhere, Banshees, Fabelmans, Tar).
I’m vaguely interested in the Oscars now, but not enough to watch. It’s a good reminder of shit that came out last year that I need to see, at the very least.
My biggest opinion on the Oscars as an actual show is that I wish they’d let everyone who won awards talk a lot longer. Especially the technical awards. This is how I feel about every awards show.
I love Ticky Tacky Ogre but Triangle of Sadness would have been an equally good title.
Marcel better get to accept his best animated feature oscar in person.
i will never watch this movie because i think it would make me barf, but even i am upset Mad God wasn’t even nominated
Yeah, this has been the best moment for stop motion since Jason and the Argonauts and Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer hit back to back in 63-64.
It’s the most magical night in Hollywood
jimmy kimmel is the best thing about this show so far which is saying something
Riz Ahmed is too good at reading the dumb bullshit they make presenters say, I feel that’s gonna get him in trouble one day
man fuck the navalny doc, can americans stop slobbering all over navalny, he’s still a white russian chauvinist.
I think the broadcast should be longer. They should show the winning short films in their entirety
I think it’s kind of weird that Brendan Frasier and Ke Huy Quan are willing to participate with this kind of thing, they each seem to have great, personal reasons to hold this community of peers in a pretty poor regard.
I mean of course this is the kind of thing I’ll get all heated up about but we’re talking about a guy who said immigrants are like cockroaches. He’s attended (and defended) multiple neo-nazi rallies in moscow. He may be to the left of Putin (and a victim of Putin’s regime) but he’s still to the right of DeSantis and Trump.
This is like giving an oscar to a puff piece on Strasser in the 1930s that tries to paint Strasser as a well-intentioned liberal.
