I can't believe today was a good play (Games you played today)

I’m sure there’s a hyper mathematical explanation for why they cool your drink better than cubes but for me it’s enough that they look cool

a sphere has a higher surface area than a cube

more surface, more contact, more cooling

No it’s opposite. Since it’s one big sphere instead of a bunch of smaller cubes it presents less surface area to the alcohol which means less melting and less watering down

A sphere has the minimum surface area of all shapes for a given volume (although the cube can maybe fit more volume in the width of a glass in the first place, I suppose)

Maximum would be a single-atom-width plane I suppose?

I actually looked this up and the maths say a cube (6(x^2)) has less surface area than a sphere (4[pi] (r^2))

of course, this is assuming the totality of the sphere is submerged, which it isn’t in the above screenshot, a thing that cubes of ice can easily accomplish

edit: goddamnit I am a child and cannot tell the difference between r and d

someone put some drudge sirens around about how I’m wrong

theres a whole minigame dedicated to making those ice spheres in the first of the north star yakuza game

i did one of my “arcade roulette” streams and landed on a game called “ninja clowns” and one of the bosses caused me to freak out

I spent way too long playing Lego Marvel Super Heroes.

I mean, I know. I know.

It’s just nice sometimes to shut off most of the lights in the ol’ noggin and kinda go on cruise control for a bit.

the point of ice in whisky is to melt slower not faster you rubes

Yeah I’ve made that r versus d mistake so many times I’m paranoid about it

I think we can all agree that the cooling/dilution effects of ice in whiskey is totally avoided if you stop being a fucking child and just drink it straight

doesn’t water unlock some of the taste?

plus there’s those cooling stones or smth.

I too drink whiskey straight, because I’m too lazy to get ice from downstairs

very occasionally a couple drops - literal drops - of water can loosen something up in the taste i am told but that’s always seemed like a weird ritual only when i’ve tried

ice in whiskey definitely opens up the taste of the whiskey. I even let a little bit of the ice melt before I start sipping it.

Drink whiskey however you like it.

I have two ice sphere molds in my freezer right now.

ive always heard ice also numbs your tongue a little so it’s easier to drink strong flavors. Which is also why you’re supposed to drink bad shitty beer ice cold, to cover up the sickly maltiness. No clue if any of that is anything, though.
