Somehow getting hosed in a video pinball game like Demon’s Tilt frustrates me way more than getting hosed by a mechanical pinball game. Cool theme and grafix, but I think about a half hour of playing is all I’m putting into it.
It didn’t help that I spent easily 4x as long fixing the broken installation of the game through Xbox Game Pass. Easily 1 out of 6 games I download through that launcher shit the bed and need to be uninstalled. Then I have to go through some arcane process to make Game Pass forget I ever installed it ever, then maybe also restart my PC and redownload the game (which will, somehow, finish instantly because I guess Uninstall doesn’t mean Delete as far as Game Pass games are concerned).
playing the x-men dlc for marvel ultimate alliance 3. it’s pretty much the same as the marvel knights dlc, with another series of challenge gauntlets to go through. the new danger room mode is a lot of fun, though; a competitive twinkle star sprites-esque deal where you can send status effects and debuffs to the other team when you do well. that’s pretty much about it though, most of the rewards aren’t super great; not like people are clamoring for more appearances of iceman and cable.
but at least you can get storm’s old punk rock outfit, and that’s cool.
i think you’re the only other person on here playing mua3 so if you ever wanna do gauntlets or something hit me up

I didn’t get that far in the post game, I want to say it mostly just gives you more cards? But I honestly can’t remember since I…never actually did too much of it. I do know it’s surprisingly long.
It’s always nice to hear someone else liked it! I’ve always thought it stood out from it’s contemporaries and really loved the exploration of Link’s Awakening style jumping mechanics.
SHINING FORCE IS STILL SO GOOD. something was broken in my brain for the first five fights so i was restarting when a unit would die on the field, but NO ITS OKAY THEY CAN DIE YOU JUST REVIVE THEM AFTER THE FIGHT THEY’RE NOT GONE FOREVER
i think the hardest part of this game is getting your healers first five levels
there’s a part where this guy turns you into a chicken and THERE’S SUPPOSED TO BE A RED ROBED MAGE THAT WILL CHANGE YOU BACK but the only one in town i found said ‘stop volunteering for experiments!’ and did nothing
leaving the town and coming back works
OH ALSO in the first town there’s a dude looking through a telescope and you can stand on the end, search and he goes AHHH A GIANT EYEBALL. i love this game
I was really excited for the Mini to get hacked just so I could get Shining Force 2 on there. Love both of those games so much and the 2 town music is an all timer:
yeah i have shining force 2 on a cart still (not 1 for some reason?) but its also on this game collection i got on sale for ps4
then im gonna play shining SOUL 1 and 2
ive never played shining force 3 its a saturn game right?
It is yeah! I’ve been sleeping on that one forever. I remember thinking it was so ugly at the time and being turned off but I’m pretty sure I’ve come around on weird low-poly stuff. They did a very ambitious thing with multiple scenario discs where you play as different characters but the US famously only got the first scenario so it was an incomplete story. Luckily all the SF3 scenarios are now fantranslated!
I’d also recommend checking out Shining Force CD which is pretty much just a compilation of the two Game Gear Shining Forces (which we had only gotten 1 of in English prior) but they’re still cool and have that redbook CD audio.
oh yeah i still have my game gear shining force as well! that was the first one i played, it was the only game gear game i had haha
the multiple scenario disk thing sounds sweet, and kinda sounds like how they didn multiple characters in suikoden 3!
i have a computer machine that isnt constantly on the brink of death anymore, so maybe i can try my hand at some saturn emulation
Been playing Cosmic Star Heroine and I’d feel like a jerk nitpicking it because it’s such a studied, luxurious, plentiful and generous homage to JRPG’s of past excellence but man it’s just not chill enough. You can’t chill in this game; it’s just a crowded bar full of excitement but every once in a while you just want to sit with your drink and people watch. There is nowhere to do that in this game.
The game just doesn’t want to chill. Hironobu Sakaguchi is chill, Yuji Hori is chill.
shining force 3 is amazing, it has a mechanic that seems designed specifically to inspire shipping and fanfiction (that also serves a secondary purpose of adding a little extra depth to your in-battle tactics i guess).
like how in valykria chronicles people can or cant fight next to eachother but its framed as personality quirks? i did get really into the characters relationships in that game
it’s like that, but instead of being predetermined, there’s no set pairings. they just gradually develop when characters fight alongside each other multiple times,
so you can pick an otp and try to make sure they’re always together in battle so they empower each other
the only one of these I remember is that one of the people in your squad will refuse to fight next to not-jewish characters
the funny thing is that the other perks like this, as i recall, are all gender related.
gamers can have a little racism
the three genders, according to the developers of valkyria chronicles: man, woman, and jew
