Grandpa Gamin' thread šŸ‘“

You know to this day I’ve never actually fought Priscilla. Just seems impolite and I appreciate when somebody isn’t immediately trying to kill me for once.

don’t bother with the tomb until you absolutely need to that place sucks

your options now are the duke’s archives, the demon ruins (lava place after queelag), new londo (underneath firelink), or tomb (sucks)

i never beat New Londo boss coz of what you need to do to access them

So I haven’t been 100% forthcoming with my adventure here :disappointed:

Not long after beating Quelaag and finding the illusory wall to her sister (?), while I was stuck on Sen’s Fortress, I took y’all’s ribbing about that tree to heart and went back and poked around a few times.

Lemme tell ya. Not having warp (which has been very nice! Worth beating O&S for), and having to fight my way through the swamp, up the wheel, past the huge poison brutes, to make my way back to Firelink (with its non-functional bonfire, thanks to Lautrec) and into the aqueduct so I could cure my cursed status…that was an adventure.

I died twice. Once to one of the big poison guys (hey, half health! It’s rough!).

But the second time I made it back to the elevator in New Londo, I rounded the corner without checking to see if the elevator was down.

Friends, it was not.

Anyway, I’m back in that fucking tree, trying to mentally sort out all of these branches in my head so I can get the gear and items from the corpses here and there. Got an armor set I’ll never use otherwise that’s keeping me from immediately eating shit if I get caught in a blast of mist, but that’s OK, because the tree found another way for me to eat shit anyway (I backed away as much as I could from one of the big mushroom guys and caught the edge of a platform I couldn’t walk backwards onto, and he uppercutted me off the mushroom to my death).

Dark Souls…gotta love it.

fantastic tidings

the mushroom parents hit like a truck but they’re about as nimble, iirc they’re not hard to run past with those huge windup animations

They were pretty easy to get around in the garden, but I can’t rule out my absent-mindedly trying to side-step/roll around them and falling to my doom.

At least I think I’ve found a way to circumvent…I wanna say most of the basilisks? So that’s nice.

There’s just…god there’s so many corpses on branches where I figure ā€œI guess I gotta roll from here onto there,ā€ and it pans out…maybe a third of the time.

Not a fan of these big clams! For having almost no range, they hit like a truck.

I was glad to see that hydra, though. First time I saw the one in the basin I panicked, but this time I knew what to do - get up close to bait its head strikes, cut off a few heads til it missed every time, and then pelt it with arrows in the neck stumps til it died.

One of the few times (apart from illusory wall messages) I’ve been happy for what seemed like a lying message that was real - couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to get to an item inside a tree, and a message on a branch said ā€œtry sliding down,ā€ which seemed like a good way to die, but - nope! It was, in fact, how to get to that item.

Gotta figure me a good strategy for these clams (just run away, I guess?) and get to the end of this place. The music is stressing me out.

Turns out running was the answer! Happy to join another PVP covenant I’ll never engage in.

Decided that it’s now time to take a try at it. Y’all know what time it is.

Edit: oh, guess that’s what happened to the little heckler dude at Firelink Shrine. Scared me, charging outta nowhere like that.

Edit 2: this place is a little less ā€œoh god I’m terrifiedā€ and a lot more ā€œSpagett!ā€ in its scares than I anticipated. Not even sure what the screaming ghosts are doing other than hootin’ and hollerin’.

Anyway I got the water lowered. Looks creepier down there.

Edit 3: oh god no I finally did it, I killed a friendly NPC fuck. One of the writings on the ground said ā€œSniper spotā€ so I took out the dude on the roof. Turns out he’s a pal! Fuck!!

Maybe I’m just depressed about killing that guy, but this area is kinda rough.

Maybe I’m also depressed about walking down a bottomless stairwell and then falling off it with 27K souls. Maybe that, too.

Not a fan of this gross giant blob that pukes corrosive chunks all over you. Also got grabbed by one of those knights, which was a bad time.

the guy you just killed has to be killed before you get the lordvessel in order to access a different covenant, iirc. he’s an alright guy but it is what it is

Yeah if you kill that guy and complete New Londo in the early game you get some unique lore from the evil covenant guy that recontextualizes the rest of the story, I like that part a lot. Especially early on when the ghosts are actually scary, it’s easier to snipe him from the ground than to climb up to his roof and melee him to death, which is why that sniper spot message was highly rated.

I recommend trying that on your next playthrough, it’s a nice touch to lock out some unique secrets unless you do an extra evil sequence break

Ah, that’s good to know.

Especially since I very nearly almost attacked the giant blacksmith on accident. Too many close calls.

I never did find the vendor I heard about in Blighttown, and now I realize it’s because I’ve been joining and abandoning covenants willy-nilly. Does he sell anything worth absolving my sins for? That’s a whole level’s worth of souls Oswald is demanding :frowning:

Still have not ventured down that long stairwell yet, but I found the Very Large Ember and am hootin’ and hollerin’. Some real:

Vibes now that I’ve got a +15 Claymore and can kill these Darkwraith Knights in 2-3 hits. Good for farming all kinds of titanite.

It’s been a week since my scary encounter and I’m still thinking about this awful man.

(Forgive the shitty phone drawing, it’s been a slow day)

What kind of monster sets a fight in an area with absolutely zero depth perception

I honestly can’t remember this guy.

Phantom that attacks you if you wander the eastern area in the Painted World with all the hollows while human.

He’s got a thorny whip that bleeds ya bad, and if you keep mid distance he hits you with the nastiest pyromancy spell I’ve seen yet.
