Sadly the fat suit is in the trailer but I am hoping that scene will just get cut from the final movie. Such a huge misstep.

My kid wanted to watch Spider Man so we put onā¦ I guess the second new one? The one with Mysterio. I sat down to watch the last third and immediately understood everything that was going on, so score one for uh readability I guess? I should consume all Marvel movies this way, it sure takes out a lot of the tedium and it doesnāt appear that you miss anything.

Whatās more, there are SO MANY great Spider-Man characters to use, and stories to tell, they could have a field day.
I mean beyondā¦ where is the Black Cat, Prowler, etc. They could make Ben Reilly THEIR Spider-man and tell stuff like Kravenās Last Hunt, The Boy Who Collected Spider-Man, Hooky, and other classics with a different guy. OR just put Miles in those stories and let them be told differently.
Or they could be smart. Do a great Mary Jane movie where she doesnāt know heās Spider-Man yet, and let the romance play out on her side, while we all know why Peter seems like a good guy while being a flake.
Thereās so many directions that would do better than this or Morbious.

Moon Knight is the dullest tv adaptation yet. It is like the polar opposite of Better Call Saul in that something is ALWAYS HAPPENING on screen in Moon Knight yet the actual story moves forward in inches. Each of the hour long episodes would be at most two pages of a flop[y comic if it had classic Kirby pacing, or two issues of Bendis at his most decomressed
edit: every single episode of a disney+ marvel show feels like episode 7 of a netflix marvel show

i did enjoy Jessica Jones yeah. Punisher i kind of watched through just hoping theyād drop āOneā like in the trailer, but i was depressed enough at the time that i didnāt really care too much about whether it was Good
Pretty much rests on Jon Bernthal being great for the role. Cast some vacant hunk like the Reahcer guy in it, film it exactly the same way and itād be nigh unwatchable
If that Capt Marvel sequel doesnāt open with this, Zack Snyder should have his Ayn Rand books taken away

I kinda appreciate the full circle Iāve gone in on Marvel stuff - watched the various Fox cartoons as a kid, couldnāt really afford the comics so just read the hell out of Wikipedia for any characters or arcs that sounded interesting, saw the whole Thanos arc, most of the movies after, and the TV shows up to the end of Loki, and now Iām back to being content with just reading Wikipedia.
I think learning about the whole pre-vis thing kinda broke me? Howām I supposed to be excited for whatever director they land and attach to a movie if most of the action scenes were cooked up with rubbery PS2 models years in advance? Strange 2 apparently shot with like half a script out of the gate. Just wild.
Add to that the homework factor of needing to have seen everythingā¦I dunno. Maybe Iām being too sour on it all, I just have a hard to getting excited for these anymore.
That said Iām probably gonna watch the whole Evil Dead saga again, or at least 2 and Army of Darkness this weekend, so thanks, Doctor Strange 2.
Edit: whoops forgot Hawkeye came after Loki. I liked that show, for the most part. The mom character was insufferable (sorry I canāt feel bad for this impossibly wealthy family!), Tony Dalton felt wasted, and I miss DāOnofrioās weird, constipated cadence from Daredevil, but that show was OK. Maybe because it was about (mostly) normal people.

I had to look up the pre-vis thing and boy howdy am I not surprised. Living in one of the worldās big VFX cities and knowing people whoāve done that for a living itās likeā¦ basically sweatshop workāoutrageous hours for super low pay, mostly contract labour, zero unions or worker representation.
A lot of how big budget movies operate makes sense when you realize how many union staff it takes to shoot a single scene on location vs getting a non-union VFX studio to devote eight times the person-hours to building exactly the same shot for a third of the cost

I think for me (and I might be wildly assuming here, correct me if Iām wrong) itās the notion that Marvel has a blueprint of exactly how they want these scenes to play out, and that is exactly how they will go.
I forget who they were originally going to get to direct Black Widow, but I know she dropped out of the project when she expressed excitement about her ideas for the action scenes and Disney brass basically told her āno, donāt worry about those, we have those done.ā
Edit: but god that is awful. I gotta look up what it is exactly that Netflix does to avoid union contracts (series length? Shooting a single season, breaking up the episodes and calling it two seasons?), but the whole industry seems rife with that kind of thing.

Yeah Iām speculating a bit here but there are lots of cases like that that I do actually know about, like for example if you see a bar in a recent Marvel movie itās always fakeāglass and flammable liquids require a lot of additional safety protocols, fire control and additional staffing to have around actors, so itās easier to either do the whole scene in VFX or at least green screen the bar itself and add it in later.
A lot of how these movies get made is definitely shaped by how cheap VFX labour is in comparison to other kinds of labour, although, yeah, Iām not sure how much of that directly contributes to making the whole movie ahead of time vs. the fact that it just fits well into their (presumably) glacial corporate processes

the insider video I just watched explicitly mentioned that they saved āmillions of dollarsā doing such extensive previs, so the non-union status of VFX is def a major factor

I finally got around to watching The Batman and likeā¦ it feels clearly that the point of the movie was that Batman is awful at his job but it also feels like theyād never make a blockbuster Batman movie that just straight says that? I was thinking and it is arguable that aside from stopping the knock-out game attack at the start he didnāt really accomplish anything, he mostly failed to solve the riddles before it would have made a difference, killed a bunch of people in a highway chase in order to catch someone who didnāt have much to do with things because he got a riddle wrong and the only people inspired by him where murderous assholes. I think there is a decent idea in the notion that as long as he is just vengeance he will fail to make the world in any way better but the body of the movie didnāt really support that at all.
Also I swear everyone in this movie is basically indestructible, there is āsuperheroes are toughā and there is half the stuff that happened in this movie.
