I haven’t seen this movie but I did read a bunch of batman comics recently and it seems like they keep taking swings at this idea and then failing because batman has to be the winner + cool. The Batman Who Laughs in particular really whiffed on this one.

I’ve only read so many Batman comics that are even borderline recent (most recent was Morrison’s run) but comics Batman always struck me as more superhuman than any of the movie versions as due to crossovers and his popularity he frequently gets matched up with/against some absurdly powerful beings that he still has to at least match. There he’s basically a peak physical specimen plus a genius with an absurd level of commitment times ten, in film he always seems to end up as action star/really tough.
That’s a long way to say “yeah, I can see why in the in-continuity comics that would be hard to pull off”.

started rereading, for the first time since childhood, abc warriors: khronicles of khaos.
the premise is typical of pat mills: the eponymous group of robots are attempting to destroy the human empire by ritualistically killing seven symbolic figureheads (a tax collector, a priest, a scientist, etc.) on the colonised planet hekate. the human empire in question is the same one seen in nemesis the warlock that provided so mch inspiration for warhammer 40000. this being a mills work, obviously, it makes 40k’s lore look subtle and nuanced. mills hates organised religion, capitalism, and the british empire, and he’s not shy about putting that in his stories.
rereading it after all this time really makes me see how much of an effect it had on my young mind. the ideas put forth in this story stuck with me and coloured how i saw the world, and even other works of fiction. i remember playing sonic adventure, seeing the genius megalomanical scientist dr eggman get wrecked by a giant monster he tried to control that was literally named “perfect chaos” and thought to myself “ah, of course. chaos and order. no-one ever plans a scrapyard full of useless junk, it’s merely the inevitable consequence of order, and why chaos will always win in the end.”

thor is my favorite mcu franchise so i’m def gonna watch love & thunder. i’m always surprised by how much i actually enjoy superhero movies? just turn ya brain off and relax and just enjoy the ride.
i have never read moon knight only seen memes but i hope everyone watchin that is having fun. pls tell me if there are nude scenes i gotta thing for seeing oscar issac’s bare ass like i’m literally ab to sit through all of ’ scenes from a marriage ’ because of a tumblr gifset where he is not wearing clothes.
anyway uh i gotta read the comics i bought still lmao. i’m getting behind on collecting catwoman but based on the covers it seems like she is really goin through a lot which is to say i’m kinda annoyed that they’re goin for the ’ punished selena ’ thing instead of her just kickin ass. i would like to see catwoman win and make it look effortless again those are my favorite parts.
are they gonna make a separate catwoman movie for zoe kravitz? am i the only one that wants that? i thought she did the role justice and seeing her on the big screen is very soothing and not just for horny reasons.

I’m pretty hopeful about Love and Thunder! Ragnarok is still probably my favorite MCU movie, since they seemed to just cut loose and let people have fun with it. When they let Thor be goofy…that’s the good stuff.

partner was watching The New Mutants when I got done with work. I know nothing about X-Men comics but it was pretty good for a comic book movie! not subtle, but more artful than “have you ever tried not being a mutant?”
could be the same muted world as Logan but from the perspective of kids in an institution. had it come out in 2018 it’d be on trend with young people reading Foucault
