I went to 10 movies at the vancouver film festival this year as I do most years, and before every screening there were about 5 minutes of prerecorded territorial acknowledgements followed by 5 minutes of interviews with POC canadian actors (followed by exactly one subaru commercial which was kind of a funny contrast but, not the point) and it felt like half the screenings I wound up with the shang chi guy talking about how great it was to be shang chi and every time I was like “gotta see shang chi” and then I’d have forgotten by the end of the movie I was actually there for

saw this imdb joke edit and thoughts went from “just dropping the 1970s comics dracula into the marvel movie universe would actually be p funny” to “because i thought that the finger on a monkey’s paw somewhere just curled causing dracula to no longer be public domain by 2022” to actually looking up moon knight + dracula and seeing it was an internet meme which i guess was popular enough to maybe become a real thing at some point according to whatever bloomberg terminal runs the numbers on these things.
“oscar isaac IS moon knight” still feels like some kind of event horizon being crossed in terms of my ability to comprehend the culture. i am absolutely not prepared for a world where significant numbers of people give a shit about moon knight.

Really curious to see how this next wave of Marvel is received. It’s really scrapping the barrel for material using dated ideas of oppression from almost exclusively what cis male creators from an age where that wouldn’t even be a phrase that made sense.
The stories probably won’t be as compelling, and if the Eternals are showing anything those making the stuff seem to care less as well.
I’m guessing we’ll see a lot of “Marvel is Dead” thinkpeices, only for a ‘resurgance’ when we get more X movies, or Spider-Man stuff and the creative energy comes back.
In particular the changes to Ms. Marvel (she’s not an inhuman, different powers, we’ll see about how they lean on the religious aspect) show that they don’t really seem to care about being consistent or true, which isn’t bad. But all of these TV shows and Movies no longer have a north star or ‘endgame’. It all feels like entertainment without meaning, which has always been Marvel at it’s worst.

Actors just stand in spots saying thing written for them by smarter people. They are the least of any project they are in.
i’m not saying she’s the best actress in the world or whatever but i think angelina jolie is smarter than most marvel screenwriters

My Morbius is and always will be the one from the cartoons with suction cups on his hands who wants to drink plasma. All these other interpretations are poor imitations.
As mediocre as that movie will probably be, the editing and the music feel like two things in particular that really take that trailer down a notch.
