That one multiplayer space game?
Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator!
But itās PC, the different control schemes are all approximated on kbm rather than being unique pieces of plastic. Still scratches the same itch, though.
But there is this, which is one of the greatest things ever:
Oh there is also a newish Millennium Falcon ride at Disney World (I suppose of special interest to @u_u) that is ostensibly similar, with 4 crew members with individual interfaces and roles, but despite way higher production values the interactivity is near zero so it ends up being pretty lame
I have a conspiracy theory that theme parks are adding more pseudo interactive elements to their rides because they saw like one too many bored teens looking at tik toks when they should have been paying attention to Pirates of the Caribbean and now all rides force you to like do something with you hands while the ride is going
yeah, smugglerās run is kind of a misfire, disneyās interactive rides are never great. the set dressing around that one is excellent but the ride underwhelms
after going out for dim sum, we came home and assembled the GRS Super Joystick that had finally arrived. i immediately tested it in their config, and everything seemed to be working well. i then bought a copy of SNK 40th Anniversary Edition on Steam for $5 andā¦wasnāt able to get anything working.
so, after some emails and coming home today to make a few (easy) tweaks to the stick, i am now playing every arcade iteration of Ikari Warriors 1 - 3 the way they were meant to be played - with a goddamned rotary joystick.
and yeah, it feels pretty perfect; like i remember it.
Ikari Warriors is a game i mainly associate with St. Augustine, Florida. more specifically, the condo complex my family used to stay in during spring break vacations. the pool area was where i spent most of my day while my parents did whatever, and it also happened to have a good selection of about half a dozen arcade games (this is also where i first started playing and becoming obsessed with Castlevania, on a VS. CV cabinet, simply because it was there).
Ikari Warriors was one of the games, and all the kids wanted to play it. it was hard as nails, and no one really knew how to pronounce āIkariā because this was the early 90s, but i always had a fun time, despite probably never making it past level 1. me and my friends for the day, plunking in the few quarters we had, trying to at least get to the tanks.
Affordable Space Adventures? I think.
Playing the elephantlike Elephantasy: Flipside
It looks like itās going to be cute and simple but it turns out to be tough. Huge world with global puzzles, a bit like if Linkās Awakening had a second quest. At least until I beat the Labyrinth of Glass and broke the game
they made such a big deal out of riding the horse at the time but the way you get the horse in ocarina of time is: if you talk to the girl as a kid at the ranch that I believe is a completely optional area enough times she eventually teaches you a song that makes the horse calm down and stop running from you. if go to the still optional ranch of the future and pay to ride around on a horse in the pen, youāre given some other horse but you can dismount that horse, play the song, and epona will come running up and you can get on her. if you pay to ride around again you can call epona again and if you talk to the owner guy (by Z TARGETING the guy while on the horse) he will challenge you to a race, if you beat him twice he locks you in and you have to jump the fence and now you have the horse. there is no popup or quest journal or anything anywhere explaining any of this. once upon a time we had it all and it was-
yes navi, thank you
that crt shader is intense!
yeah what they ought to do is let you set a separate screenshot specific shader setup.
the horse quest in OOT is such fucking weird game design that it feels completely optional through sheer obscurity, but i swear to god you need that horse at one point. or do you?? i have no idea and i just played through the game last year.
itās so bizarre
Been playing Vapor Trails, a metrovania I got for free of itch. will probably go back and spot the creator a cash as this is pretty enjoyable. Iāt mostly linear so far, but most of the searcha ction games are. Hollow knight and the og metroid were definite exceptions. Itās a lot of platformy stuff before you get to the combat stuff, whichis weird because the tutorial segment was just a couple of fights.
only recently did I learn that Epona is not required to beat the game, mind blown! you can apparently use the longshot to get across that broken bridge to Gerudo land
I canāt remember whether I ever beat Elephantasy: Flipside or got distracted at the very end.
Based on my Steam trophies, I got āEnding 1.ā It looks like there are three other endings and I seem to remember that it didnāt feel like Iād really finished the game.
This overworld nonsense is what I live for and itās sad they kind of stopped doing it after the 64 games
I havenāt played ocarina since it came out so Iāve been getting lots of sudden random flashes of 1999 mtv, the matrix, wwf monday night raw, etc while playing. Iām unstuck in time like when they go to babylon 4 and sheridanās time thing gets damaged.
kinda digging the warm forum turnaround on Ocarina! weāll see how far it goesā¦ (who will be the first to ride for Twilight Princess? (besides me. and as ive said in the past only because itās the video game where a hunky elf boy gets turned into a wolf and dommed by a shortstack with a fat ass))
ā¦umm anyway im as all over the shop as ever re: games im playing but just got a wild hair to play through Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen for the first time in years. going through as a 2-woman power team with just my main pawn (and occasionally soloing for a while whenever she gets dropped off a cliff by harpies, i figure she could use the vacation). I just got to Gran Soren and am doubling back to save Quinoa from the witchwood. really bizarre place/time to introduce that quest, especially since you can easily miss it if you pursue any main plot threads in the city. rolling magick archer atmā¦ its my favorite class lol weāll see if i can resist doing 90% of the game as it this time
Oh yeah and im gonna pop into Butterblack Isle every so often (both that and Quinoa were autocorrects im leaving cuz theyre fun) and see how early in the game i can complete it, since i saved it for post-dragon the first time and found it fun but pretty easy
its really gross/weird/funny that moldy food and fat scraped off of meat with animal bones restore more health/stamina than fresh food. never have understood the logic there, maybe if i ate more moldy berries and rank fish IRL iād be able to unlock my full potential
STRENGTH IN NUMBERS ARISEN
I had this stuck in my head the other day and thought it might be time to revisit
That game did things to people
