Who the fuck is Tim?
I’ve been replaying Dishonored lately. The openness of the design really draws me to keep coming back to it. But there’s something about it I noticed that bugged me. At one point in the game, you are imprisoned in a pit. There are two ways out: Blink(teleport) out of the pit, or possess a rat and scurry through a tiny chute. There’s no boon for using the rat, in fact you are punished for it since Possession uses more mana than Blink. You might call that a pointless choice since there’s a downright superior “default” option available (every player has Blink, not every player buys Possession).
The designers’ approach is that there’s no reason not to give players an option. Freedom of choice just inherently feels good. And right out of the pit, there’s a table with a couple swords on it. You’re disarmed. It’s just a tiny cosmetic difference but they silently let you pick. You don’t even have to grab a replacement sword if you don’t want to. All these little choices add up and make the design feel natural. Fresh. The game doesn’t stale as quick as Deus Ex or Bioshock on their repeat playthroughs do. It’s nice.
tim is one of the realest guys I know
I’ve hung out with tim a couple times, he’s just this guy, you know?
assuming you’re indirectly referring to my post, i’m less opining about his motivations and more about the effect reading him has, and the notions he is able to evoke. you can’t hope to express the things he does without having valuable insights. he is good solely on those merits. i don’t care if he lies or not because those lies don’t affect me in any way. i don’t care about his motivations because the work he produces is profound.
when i say tim is genuine, i mean he invokes genuine emotions, genuine interest. not that he isn’t lying. i don’t care if he is, it doesn’t take away from what he brings to the table in terms of craft.
actually I was referring to Ni Go’s posts. I agreed with what you said!
ooo I like this word
One Way Heriocs is on for a dollar so I sold some steam cards and I like it
though if one were a big fan of the Shiren game that was on DS and wanted to play another (in English), what would that theoretical person’s options be?
nothing else quite scratches that itch
did not know the catamites went here! love the heck out of space funeral
Just finished the Walking Dead season Two and fucking Arvo
Unfortunately, the only other Shiren in English is the one for Wii (#3, although not the third in release order). The two for Game Boy (& Color) are quite elegant and playable if you already have a robust knowledge of the SNES original/DS revamp, but you’ll want to keep notes and you’ll likely reach a sticking point eventually that can’t be cleared just by talking to every NPC.
What other near-Shiren/J-roguelike games have you played and how did you feel about them? Stuff like the other Mystery Dungeon games, Izuna, Azure Dreams…
trying dark souls 2 again. I hate it slightly less this time around.
played a demo for a pokemon one (felt too light) and took a detour to crypt of the necrodancer (didn’t find it to be fun to play)
I have a feeling I wound up with a completely different outcome than you, he was long gone after a little while for me
yeah I saw that, I’m broke and my only means of games is steam and warez
looks dope tho
port plz
Do you think that any of your posts here have not “ultimately been about yourself”? Because that’s all I really see out of you. I’m not criticizing you for that, by the way, just stating it as a fact.
I’ve never hung out with Tim, and don’t really care for his non-vg writing, but still I haven’t seen any evidence for him being manipulative or creepy. I just mostly see a lot of other people with similarly large ego complexes taking passive aggressive potshots at someone who hasn’t really done anything to deserve it other than be a mildly well-known personality with opinions(!!).
And now I’m done talking about it.
Torneko: The Last Hope is a lovely Mystery Dungeon for PSX, probably the only one i’ve played besides the original Shiren that can almost stand up to it.
played rocket league basketball. you get considerably more points per match by doing technical stuff but actually scoring is really hard. i wonder if the game would be more interesting if the ball bounced higher; aerial hits are powerful in this mode and i think it’s surprinsingly not that often you can capitalize on them since the ball tends to tip-toe rather than ricochet off of walls.
He shot me but I was trying to get him killed because he knew he was gonna pull something.
