Games You Played Today ##RELOAD

I finished Beyond Oasis. It’s very pretty and has a truly tremendous amount of stuff crammed into it that I never had any inkling was there. As much as I don’t really want to play it any more, I get a warm feeling thinking about how much time 10 y.o. me would have poured into this game.

I started playing this sometime last year and ended up losing interest after three or four hours, I think. Maybe more? I’d have to check the save file. Real cool lookin, though, for sure.

A a few weeks ago, picked Alundra back up for the third or fourth time and have managed to actually play for 6-7 hours. Even with perhaps the finest traditional jrpg-style environmental spritework it kinda drags, and I have admittedly started losing interest in it as well. I wonder what those artists are doing these days? Probably just retired and kicking it granny style.

I’d like to try the Saturn Oasis sequel one of these days. I’m not sure how it compares to the first game. There’s only so many good commercial 32bit 2D action rpgs.

don’t want to post in the xcom 2 thread yet because I don’t think I have too much to contribute but

I’ve been playing xcom 2! I really like it! I like how matsuno-esque it feels and all of the changes they made feel like good, logical improvements. plus the customization is GREAT

I had all these thoughts initially and then I soured on it somehow

I’m playing Ys!

I didn’t know where to start so I just went with book I & II

Yard work will never be the same

Excellent choice!

book I & II I have good memories, they were the first Japanese software I ever had to figure out how to get working on my PC. good ost too!

I played Downwell and Momodora IV for the first time last night and I really enjoy both!

yeah, I’m thinking I might need to restart my campaign now that I know what I’m doing! I wasn’t paying a ton of attention to the new xcom 2 (instead deciding to make the thread we had here about it into an invisible inc. thread) so everything is a pleasant surprise as opposed to meeting my expectations

I accidentally beat Downwell before leaving for work yesterday and that’s my favorite kind of achievement.

<3 Downwell

I really want to try this mod but I’m afraid it’ll screw up the game balance

but then again the turn-by-turn pacing of new-XCom is already a problem and arguably even worse in 2, so

I am playing Layton vs Phoenix Wright or whatever it’s called. I’m told it’s not the best representative of either franchise but I only have so many hours left on this mortal coil. I’m enjoying it, anyway!

I find the writing/pacing of the Phoenix Wright bits to be better than the Layton bits, though.

I played the PC Engine version of Ys I and II on Wii a few years ago. One thing that surprised me was how much Crystalis was obviously inspired by Ys.

I’ve been playing Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate, even though I’ve played both games before and I remember thinking to myself the first time around that I probably didn’t want to play them again due to a frustrating boss or two.

now that I’ve made some decent progress:

it’s got its good points. the first section is way too hard but then it rapidly gets way too easy. maybe I’ve just gotten better at making builds. but pretty much every boss has just been turtle/sidestep/counterattack. I think I really enjoy the soulsborne games bc of the sense of interconnectedness and place and stuff, and this game does not do that very well. the pacing is too all over the place. I don’t know. I wish I had some money so I could play 3 already

this reminds me that I should share that video that shows off how lazily done a lot of the texturing and mapping was done in DS2

but don’t look toups because it might spoil some areas for ya

Tried TF2 again for the first time in probably a year because I miss Overwatch.
First things first I first think the main menu has crashed but it turns out it was just struggling to load information about all the new hats for sale and a list of people streaming it. I also receive a crate.

I then go and check my loadout to set most weapons to the defaults because that’s all I remember. The inventory system is still an unbelievably clunky mess that lags every time you turn a page or view an item description. Some weapon descriptions even go off-screen in the middle of them at times. Most cosmetic items seem to have way more lax restrictions on which class can equip them now too so anybody can look like whatever.

Attempt three times to use the automatic matchmaking and after each try get told there are no game available despite it having listed at least 100 matches each time. Server browser it is. My choices seem to be between official Valve ones that allow only one game mode or custom ones with seemingly hundreds of mods for stat tracking and benefits for donators. Go for a Valve one and on the long load screen get told that I am the millionth best at those duel things that I tried exactly once.

When I finally get into a game my framerate is all over the place but mostly real bad. Go in the settings, turn off shadows and AA, the game then hangs for a full minute. Get back and lose connection to the server. Try to find a new server to load but now the server browser only give me like 10 matches per refresh. Get in a new game, framerate still can’t get stable, every other character is wearing a Gibus or some other awful-looking free hat and the ones that have clearly spent some time/money on their looks have blinking christmas lights around their guns.

I receive a weapon drop for a weapon I already have. Try to fix the framerate by turning down more video settings which causes the game to now crash to the desktop. The worst part is that I think this is exactly how I remember it when I last tried it.

Now my PC may be starting to show its age a bit. I’m not on the fastest ADSL Internet connection. Overwatch beta though ran like butter compared to this. Is anybody still playing TF2? Do you just learn to live with these problems? I know I did for a while at least.

I played it a few months ago on my Acer budget laptop and it ran very smoothly, I was surpirsed

I had a lot of fun and uninstalled it anyway

I played Reversi against myself in Tabletop Simulator.

I lost.
