as someone who watched most of Tim’s streams of it, and witnessed him being pretty unimpressed and/or frustrated with this, I’m suspecting that he’s slowly losing his grip
Yeah, I revisited it a bit and it can be rough. Part of the thing is I forgot how little you can actually see on the screen, due to making the sprites so big on a GB screen. The games definitely keep improving, at least thus far.
I don’t feel right making judgments about him as a personality now that he’s much more visible as a person thanks to streams and podcasts and social media. I keep rewriting this because it feels disrespectful, even if not explicitly rude. The short version is that I think he’s very different now than in the old days of Insert Credit when his personality affected the gamethink-osphere, and maybe that causes conflicts in people understanding him now.

tim is a treasure. he’s been a very large influence on me personally and is easily one of my favorite writers, bar none. i think people underestimate how genuine he is, even if he has had tendencies to editorialize for effect. the effect is worth it in every instance i’ve examined.
