Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate is on sale on the 3DS e-shop so I downloaded the demo to give it a try. I’ve never played a Monster Hunter game before and I found this demo utterly bewildering. There’s a ton of random UI shit, my character is an incoherent mess of polygons, and each move takes 2-button combos to pull off. I have an insect buddy that I can launch but I can’t figure out why.
This game makes me feel like an 80-year old whose never seen a videogame before trying to pick up their grandkid’s gameboy. What the hell is going on here? Why is this game so damn confusing? The concept of a friendlier dark souls where you bounty hunt monsters sounds wonderful but this is a nightmare!
I don’t have a PS4 but thank you for the invite! That sounds like a lovely time. I’ll try some of these beginner weapons and see if I can make any more sense of it.
The right-stick aiming is bothering me quite a bit but otherwise Brigador is neat
I like the mission titles
Being rewarded for squishing ostensibly non-hostile panicking bystanders I like less
This really confuses my understanding of the player/BRIGADOR’s role. I conceived of them as a pilot-for-hire to revolutionary forces, “GREAT LEADER HAS FALLEN” and all that.
I believe it’s an unreconciled design; elements of Syndicate and other mayhem games they wanted to homage but didn’t notice what it said.
Aiming is much, much easier and more intuitive if you learn to mouse and keyboard it.
As I recall I tried to engage in the real dark souls and play with a dualshock in one hand and a mouse in the other so I could have the worst of both worlds for much of my experience.
I don’t understand how ps1 memory cards work in retroarch. I start up a game it only has some early saves on the card, I load my save state and now the rest of them are there. I would have thought there would just be some separate memory card file the game reads and writes to. I didn’t realize messing around with save states was like time travel and you have temporal paradox shit to keep straight so you don’t get stuck in a timeline with the wrong memory card
