easy to prototype in analog form which makes it about 10% more likely to have had the mechanics polished at all.
god, it gets worse as budgets get bigger, people apply fewer and fewer best prototyping practices (no time! canât carve out anyone from another division which is like seven miles away), so everyone settles into âmost likely to workâ
itâs killing me
whereas I can just sit here on my lonesome and scribble on a stack of index cards to try out game ideas
cards are more tangible/skeuomorphic too so theyâre a good avenue for âroguelikeâ design because not only are they easy to think about but the way cards are randomized is a lot closer to peopleâs fallacies about RNG than dice or uhhh traditional procgen.
Theyâre also a fun collectible. Easy to just look at and take all the information in if well laid out.
Nu-XCom managed not to have any cards despite the lead designer coming from the board game world. So the answer is laziness
Imbroglio is an iOS deckbuilding roguelike⌠that doesnât have cards. Itâs my top phone game, PERIOD.
so what is the Shiren the Wanderer of deckâbuilding roguelikes that may or may not have cards
Star Wars Battlefront 2 the game on everyones lips because thet saw that Milk Sucking Luke and was like Yeah I Need that.
It isâŚokay. The multiplayer is broken beyond anything. Sure you mildly have to âworkâ (play the game a bunch) to have access to the fuck you cards but once you do you tower beyond normal mortal players that have to headshot you three times to kill you while you have to graze them in the arm.
Lots of the side chatter is from Female voices which in 2018 is real weird because one side is space nazis. I feel pretty uncomfortable playing the space nazis.
I checked and itâs called Card Thief!
I donât remember if the game itself is nearly as inventive and diverting as its name! (probably even less so!)
I probably only played it a couple times.
The art is kind of cute though?
Card Thief is fine, but making progress requires replaying levels quite a bit which is a drag.
Dragon Quest builders Demo
why isnât this game out yet
it is my perfect game
i love it
to be fair itâs been out since 2016
hence my confusion at it not being out yet
my disc copy of the dragonâs trap remake arrived today! it looks incredible, it really is like playing a high-quality animated movie.
also, it plays great too, since it literally is just the dragonâs trap but with new graphics and a save system. itâs such a close port that you can press a button at any time to instantly switch between modern and master system graphics, AND the passwords are cross-compatible both ways.
Would you recommend Dragonâs Trap to someone whose only exposure to the series is Monster World IV?
Dragonâs Curse is #500 on my list of 501 Games of All times, which is a place of honor. Itâs by far the best of the Wonder Boy games if you ask me and the remake is pretty ideal. Like I usually loathe the ITâS AN INTERACTIVE CARTOON style but the game feels great so itâs no big thing.
Neither of the available soundtracks are as good as the PC Engine version though.
(wait the game doesnât have the PCE soundtrack right)
The new levels are kinda bullshit but theyâre easily avoided. If you can tolerate/have a soft spot for old timey side scrolling action RPGs I think it might be the peak of the genre.
afaik, itâs just the new soundtrack or the master system soundtrack.
also, yeah, i like it more than monster world iv, even. itâs a really great game that doesnât get its due online, because it only ever appeared on non-nintendo 8-bit systems.
thatâs how i played it a couple of months back and it was a really good time
yeah easily the best non-arcade port on the master system and the best wonderboy game
I gave up on the new version after getting wiped too many times in the underwater segment about 2/3 of the way through on hard mode but I should go back to it and finish it, itâs wonderfully done
