Games You Played Today Classic Mini

I am very not ADD but I still suffer from this, I been talkin about it since the HD era began. I think it’s a really underexplored line of criticism.

I find myself sitting closer to the screen because there’s detail I know I’m missing when I’m farther away and I can’t stand it. I can still read the faraway view, but the knowing is the trouble.

Incidentally, Red Dead 2’s extremely soft look, very strange today, holds up well at distance.

I haven’t had sight trouble as bad as I did playing Gears 1, especially in co-op. The cut-down color palettes and high-contrast lighting of that time period were the real low point in visibility for me.

yeah I think I’ve spoken enough about both a) how much I still seem to dislike the prevailing design trends of the early 360 generation more than most people and b) how picky I am about having per-pixel sharpness when I expect it to be there, so while I’m not in a sitting-closer-to-the-screen situation moreso than just “I want to run this on a monitor and not my projector” I can cosign all of that

I don’t have ADD issues with visual processing so much as I can sometimes get my brain to overheat and have trouble task-switching when I start to indulge my obsessive tendencies minmaxing in an RPG

if I’m, like, going to town and getting new equipment for characters in divinity or whatever I usually try to do it with a beer because it’s easier for me cognitively

booooooo, you should try lots and lots of cars! that’s the fun of it!

B-b-b-but none of them drift around those corners as well as my horrible anime wrapped Subaru :frowning:

Well, with the right tuning…

Questing with that Elliot kid is pretty neat.
I also got phantom breaker but I feel like the levels are a little long

there was a thing where somebody remade the metal gear solid intro in the unreal 3 engine, and the little torpedo delivery device thing was all hyper detailed for no reason. it had a bunch of little bumpy texture things on the nose, like material they use for superhero outfits in movies now to make them look less goofy than spandex, but wouldn’t you want a smooth surface for low drag underwater for something like that? and then when he’s swimming it just looked like a filmed real guy swimming underwater, it was the most pointless overly detailed just-because-you-can thing.

I feel crazy because the first thing I did was turn all the crazy visual bullshit up to the max if it wasn’t already there and just let the fucking tetris happen (though it’s supremely depressing when the game manages to dip under 60 fps because random Too Much is going on)

Base Lumines is also not a game but Electronic Symphony/the remaster are because the idea of making a chain and getting huge points for continued combos means it’s actually a game and decisions have to be made

In conclusion I have bad opinions and will be here all week to dole out more

There better be a trophy for never driving anything other than a Lancia because I’ve made a lot of progress towards it

Okay that’s not true, I also found an Escort RS Turbo in a barn and hooned it to hell and back

Okay and made a 1000HP woody wagon

I wonder what kind of drivetrain swap I can do in that Peel P50…

tomb raider ii remains absolutely engrossing.

No, it works for me, too, the noise causing something to snap in my brain in interesting ways.

I just recently dabbled in Tomb Raider for the first time since childhood. What sets 2 apart?

it’s not really anything more than an expansion pack to first Tomb Raider and doesn’t really change anything up radically besides minor changes and new set of levels to explore. that’s really fine by me since the formula is great. so my statement “tomb raider ii remains absolutely engrossing” is a general statement that applies to the whole classic tomb raider format, really.

I would actually argue that it’s the jsmb2 to TR’s smb, except that it also misses the point by having too many huge beefy bullet sponge men to shoot at everywhere, but still amazing in how demanding it is of the player. Some of the levels feel like enormous puzzle boxes and you need to be able to do things like flip and change direction mid air over spikes to make it through the later levels as intended.

literally my only real complaint of conseuqnce re:TE is that the zoom in isn’t far in enough for my liking, even with highest setting in the options menu and I end up having to hit the max to suit my needs and my needs are I need to see what I’m doing and fuck codifying T-spins

I get t spins triggered in situations where I obviously didn’t do a t-spin

Anyway, the visual noise doesn’t distract me but I am a bad tetrisser anyway. I also needed to have the default set to max zoom.

I’m glad to know it’s not just me?

what crazy version of tetris are you people playing where up is rotate and not hard drop

I was talking about the delay, up for rotate is absurd
