The arranged soundtrack is hilarious.
i was playing castle shikagami 2 because voice acting for another thread but i kept going for a while because the grazing mechanic is so neat…also i forgot pocky (of rocky) is just, in it? unless its supposed to be generic ghost killer priestess and im just ignorant or something
anyway im gonna continue sucking ass at this and having fun
Yeah just a different shrine maiden.
Sisters Royale on the Switch uses a similar grazing mechanic if you need more. Same studio and all that.
ooo! thanks
what is going on with this
every time they take the wheel they give it a yank and drive straight into a cornfield
From what I could find Hiroki Kikuta did these arrangements himself. He destroyed his own work.
ugh, that’s a punch to the gut
Correction and this was strangely hard to find:

Edit: De De Mouse, Yuzo Koshiro, Tsuyoshi Sekito
Looks like weirdly DeDe Mouse is responsible for the worst offenders.
Ah, one of the ‘supervision’ projects. Still, the list seems decent, but I think these remaster projects are doomed from the beginning. Modern poppy or ‘orchestral’ interpretations just suck the life out of old game tunes in my opinion, either not tight enough to represent math-precise rock or so big they overwhelm what was there; almost all of the Smash Bros. remixes hits the same for me, too.
castle shikigami iii is one of my fav shmups, i will always adore extremely 2000s dubs like that (cf. baroque etc.). the game looks like it was made for $200 but it has one of my fav shmup systems in general. love bullet skimming forever.
yeah i kinda like the energy of women screaming into their price is right looking grey ass default computer microphones
the really short charge to a special move mechanic in 2 is rad too
what is 3 on? EDIT: Oh cool 360 and wii
yeah i don’t think the arrange is technically bad, but it lacks any soul, of which the original has plenty
anyway, if you do play the SoM remake, play it with the original soundtrack lol
I want to argue that Sayo in Shikigami 2 is Sayo from Kikikaikai but literally the only evidence I have is that Shikigami 3 has Time Gal
anyway, for my sins, I choose caught then beaten
Tried to thread the needle between a boulder and the northern edge of the map in Sunless Sea and, uh, I do not recommend trying that…

played hotline miami 1 + 2 cause a friend of mine was talking about them, maybe people are thinking about those games again cause they were in the last of us ii or something lol.
i think the first game works even tho i find that quicksave / quickload game design fundamentally unsatisfying. they really figured some shit out here. fluid tactical door breaching action, extremely chunky and gratifying nonstop hyperviolence lol. this sketched out world of psychotronically-programmed animal mask psycho killers who visit convenience stores and video stores between massacres still captures the imagination. it works.
hotline miami 2 just feels totally extraneous, the setting and characters of the first are not something that needed to be expounded on, the level design tends towards to worst aspects of these games (i.e. gunfights with enemies you can barely see across wide open spaces). it ends up feeling more like real-time frozen synapse than anything lol. still finished it cause i guess the violence is that gratifying to me and that last level was pretty cool, it feels like the closest they wanted to get with these games to like the chaotic shitpost gamemaker stuff they used to do.
Yeah it was a classic case of a sequel that was at once too derivative of the first game, and when it is different, it’s just worse.
Other devs took the basic Hotline Miami formula into more interesting directions: I’d recommend Deadbolt that has an undead/hell theme and added staircases, vents and traps, and Katana Zero which made it (cosplay) samurai-themed and added bullet time.
Ape Out pretty much is just an improved version of hotline miami
Ape Out is pretty good, but they broke the door-clearing and the ultraviolence isn’t nearly as satifying
