Really disliked it. Its heavily detailed UE4 looking ass graphics aren’t readable at the speed the game demands, and there are weird, very small windups/cooldowns to attacks that ought to be instant. I think it probably has a “high skill ceiling” but it’s just incredibly frustrating to play.
that’s the outcome I was dreading
I managed to finish it on hard but never figured out the weird timing, and it was way more about flailing than actually doing anything intentional and cool. I really ended up disliking it too.
It’s a shame because Ruiner has sort of an odd sense of whimsy that surprised me in a capital C Cyberpunk motif game
soul calibur vi got a new character today: setsuka
she’s really cool and her stage is awesome
i learned how to do rudimentary line of sight scripting in rpg maker vx and had a very fun time loading up the premade maps and trying to construct little stealth missions in them
Hellpoint is stiff and lacking a dedicated parry button but has Event Horizon and unnerving sound design and might be worth pursuing for longer than an hour
set up the CRT TV and played some Sega CD today.
first up was Final Fight CD - i never really gave this one enough time, but after watching the DF retro episode, i decided to go back and spend more time with it. it’s a really good port! the redbook audio soundtrack ranges from “awesome late 80s/early 90s action flick” to “totally misses the point of the original track.” but overall, a really cool game.
then moved on to Shining Force CD. confession: i’ve never played a Shining Force game for more than 20 minutes. i guess i want to try to beat this one?
listen to the menu song all the way through, that song GOES places!
i love the challenge dungeons so fucking much!
I’ve been very curious about this lately. Is it like short-term mindless fun or does it feel like a game you can put lots of time into and get a lot out of it? Either one is neat but I can’t tell if the game is as casual and bitesize as its marketing suggests.
I also played it last night and I took it for a laid back affair. Controlling your guy feels pretty imprecise so I can’t imagine it being something I would dedicate time and effort into. I’m about to make a lame analogy but it’s more like Wipeout (the tv show) than Ninja Warrior, where that dude trained on his fishing boat for months.
I’ve been playing the game titled “Spending the last week buying games and immediately refunding them 'cause everytime I look at the small amount of money in my Steam wallet not being there I feel sick and start to have uncontrollable anxiety build up, wheeeee.”
It’s not terribly fun, tbh.
Oh, and more NFS: Heat. Obliterated a person driving a Lamborghini with a far higher performance rating than my Firebird (they were like 388 to my 299), probably mostly because of the power of Burt Reynolds’ mustache. Erm, the spirit of his 'stache. Fuck if I know.
Also been plugging away at The Steel Path in Warframe. It’s kinda eh solo, but has been more fun to duo than probably any co-op I’ve played in the game in years, so that’s neat.
Say what you want about Americans but we understand capitalism. You buy yourself a product and you get what you pay for, and these chumps had paid for some angry gringo without the sensibilities to know right from wrong. Here I was about to execute this poor bastard like some dime store angel of death and I realized they were correct, I wouldn’t know right from wrong if one of them was helping the poor and the other was banging my sister…
Max Payne 3?
I figured if I was going to grieve, I might as well do it hopped up on painkillers.
i played some bauldurs gate dark alliance 2 on ps2 today and hell yeah this is one of my favorite games, i love to have thirty seconds of action and then twenty seconds of menu time. it rules to highlight all these weapons different colors! why is my axe purple now? hell yeah this fucking rules
ive killed two goblins and leveled up and now i get to spend 40 seconds allocating skills, oh shit the menu is longer than i thought gotta spend another 30 seconda reading skills even though we all know all i wanna do is hit harder and kill things faster CUZ THIS GAME RULES
hell yeah a chest hell yeah a shoddy ring ill equip that OH MY GOD WHY DO I HAVE THIRTY OF THESE WHAT DO THEY DO oh fuck i have to change maps which means a minute of reorienting myself with this fucking automap that doesn’t stop rotating okay NOW i have to backtrack OH AWESOME THE LEFT BUTTON MAKES MY MAP BIGGER INSTEAD OF CYCLING THE OTHER WAY THROUGH MY WEAPONS (i figured out what the colors mean, its your quick weapon rotation BUT ONLY ONE WAY ONLY DPAD RIGHT! LEFT WILL DRIVE YOU CRAZY WHICH MEANS YOULL ACCIDENTALLY HIT IT ALWAYS)
everything looks awesome when you hit it and it has local co op so its the best game ever
Continue to be smitten with Rainbow Six Siege on console. Lately, I’ve been grinding terrorist hunt in an effort to improve my aim and recoil control and it’s kinda paying off. I’ve actually heard from a PC player that the inexact aim on console is something he actually preferred because even if you do make a mistake you still have a shot to survive the fight. On PC, from what I hear, there are no second chances, as soon as you expose yourself you get domed no matter what. Siege is so good.
dark alliance 2 is one of those games you can always get cheap at gamestop but is like 100x better than its value suggests
I’m always looking out for something new that’s equivalent to the Dark Alliance games. Just like those games improved on the Gauntlet formula (I didn’t like any of the 3D Gauntlet games) maybe one day another game will continue that.
The Norrath-themed clones are pretty good as well but the writing in those games is so bad that it goes beyond silly quotable lines and is just plain grating.
