My introduction to TMNT was the NES game and I remember being very disappointed checking everything else related to TMNT and learning that Donatello was in fact not vastly superior to the others in anything but the NES game

I playrd NES TMNT a lot, this was a difficult game and Donatello was better than the 3 other turtles combined. His weapon had vastly better range and damage and the other turtles didn’t have anything to even try to make up for it. Donatello = God was my canon and I just wanted him to show his proven absolute combat dominance over the other turtles in the cartoon, was that too much to ask? Literally watching a TV show just to get to the point when one mutant turtle owns 3 other mutant turtles and always ending up disappointed

I never got into TMNT because of this

the sb tactical dads death squad invaded Jeffrey Epstein’s estate to free hostages and then we got into a huge firefight with a bunch of ISIS guys in a goldeneye level

all in all this makes Raven Shield one of the greatest games in the world

I’m playing Star Control: Origins. Its an almost slavish mechanical reproduction of Star Control 2 although in a different continuity and with a totally different plot and mostly different cast of aliens. I’m a little surprised that there is any overlap at all given the apparent complexity of the licensing situation with respect to Star Control.

Anyway, its surprisingly ok. It is lacking, I think, a coherent vision of its own. It feels very Star Control, though.

There are a few ships which eschew the ā€œpointā€ and ā€œthrustā€ style controls for direct directional control, though, which feels like such a bone headed design decision that it makes you wonder if they played or understand the original game. Its particularly weird because these ships are still affected by local gravity wells, which have rotational symmetry. Cardinal directional controls don’t really make sense in that situation. It is impossible, with one of these ships, to thrust directly away from a planet unless you happen to need to do so in a cardinal direction. Its weird.

Its just really weird.

Now that I’m done with Doom Eternal (more like DUMB…ETERNAL) I’ve got some cool things on my plate.

Slowly pulling Outer Wilds apart. I am extremely bad at games like these, but I’m enjoying opening the puzzle box extremely slowly. Also lots of space failures. I’m collecting stories in my head from this game, which is the sign of a great game IMO

Gone back to Anodyne, since now I have the sequel. Playing this a few years since the last time I touched it, I feel like I can appreciate it more. It is coming off as a bit amateurish, specifically in some of the ā€œjokes,ā€ but I am really digging how much it’s an homage to Link’s Awakening. The music is also phenomenal so far. Only about 2 hours in, but I’m happy to keep plugging away at it.

Also now I wanna play sonic robo blast, as if I don’t have enough games to try out. I also want to go back to Red Alert which is simultaneously more fun and more stupid than I thought it would be. Scratches a certain itch though.

Let’s not even mention the Duke Nukem collection, The Witcher (not 3), Anodyne 2 eventually, and Paratopic. And I also recently booted up No Man’s Sky again, AND Brigador. So I guess I’m just drowning in good games.

I feel like this is me bouncing back from playing a game that deeply frustrated me. I’m actually more excited about games than I have been in about 6 months. That’s nice, it feels good.

On this level I was using a 21E an LMG so massive it really belongs on the back of a technical and not in the hands of a walking human being

And THAT makes Raven Shield one of the greatest games in the world

if the 21e is good enough for you to carry around in hl2 substance (the refined gamer’s mod of choice) it’s good enough for an operator man

Tulpa’s rapturous posting convinced me to get Outward on sale on PS4. It really is gripping, and the game’s difficulty and survival mechanics lend weight that makes the exploration feel much more rewarding. The map is not overly large, and you never have to travel too far to find an interesting destination.

The game fronts like it’s going to be all generic western fantasy, but I’ve seen some strong hints that it’s going to get pretty weird as it goes on. There’s a mountain with colour-out-of-space style purple iridescent foliage radiating out from it on all sides, and the beach is littered with giant colorful mollusc shells.

As Tulpa said before, the starting village is communist, and this is handled in a fairly subtle way that feels grounded and believable. There’s actually a Bookchin/Ocalan style ā€œcommune of communesā€ setup where each village sends representatives to a larger democratic body to deal with issues that affect everyone. Into it! There’s foreshadowing that unpleasant decisions are being made at the regional council though, so we’ll see how that goes.

The game has a bit of a learning curve where you have to get to know several different systems, but each system is not overly complex so it doesn’t hit you too hard. Like, I had a much easier time getting used to this game than when I recently played Dragon’s Dogma. Outward doesn’t feel half as good as DD to control, in fact it’s downright janky, but its systems are much more manageable. The inventory management in Outward makes way more sense to me, and I like not having to equip, level up, and deal with AI party members.

Also important to note: I messed around with the pc version of Outward a bit too and it seems to be very poorly optimized. My pc is more powerful than my basic slim PS4, but the game runs much better on the PS4. On pc, I had to limit graphics to one of the lowest settings and it was still dropping below 30fps constantly. On the PS4 it looks better and the framerate has been totally smooth. I’m not a framerate guy at all, but it has made a huge difference in my enjoyment of the game.

Played some Deep Rock Galactic with my friends today. Was a while since I last played, so lots of new content for me. One of the new mobs is a Naedocyte Breeder. They’re super annoying and have tons of health.

So I spent the entire time constantly yelling ā€œKill the breeders! Kill the breeders!ā€

Halo 4 isn’t as bad as I remember but the missions are still too long. Would have enjoyed them better if they cut some of them in half.

decided on a whim that I was going to give the Bloodstained games another chance- starting with Curse of the Moon and then moving on to Ritual of the Night if all went well

currently struggling with stage 3- it’s odd, I don’t recall having this much trouble with it the first time around

played lenna’s inception, which is a rangen zelda clone. Pretty fun game, i played thru the same seed twice to get two of the 3 endings. Most of the items are derivative as hell, but they do give you 3 interesting ones: a lighter that acts like the candle, but if you hold the button down it turns into the pegasus boots, a hammer that is infinite bombs, and these glasses that let you ā€œglitchā€ the game out, seeing obscured glitch stuiff, and allowing you to screenwrap for secrets. Very fun stuff, and the music was pretty killer also
