Yeah I’ve mostly been playing with the pro controller d-pad
Unless there’s some surprise later, the left joystick just duplicates the d pad’s functionality.
My friend bought me Sayonara Wild Hearts a long time ago, and I played he first six or seven stages one day and then inexplicably stopped. Today, months later, I played the rest. It is a very lovely game, but I feel absolutely no compulsion to like, do well at it, or get all the secret stuff. I don’t know why one would, really, except as an excuse to keep soaking in the audiovisuals, but it’s hard to do that with all the stress of Performing.
Played the first 10 minutes of Anodyne 2. Now this I’m into.
fe1 is dope im hooked
not sure if you’ve noticed but you keep reliably agreeing with a lot of my prestige indie takes on a delay of about ~9-12 months
He’s got kids, okay
played a bit more of Romancing SaGa 3. have been listening to advice and visiting other places, but i haven’t been finding any quests to do, so i’m just kind of broke now hahaha.
i met the Professor and captured all her pets, and i rescued the kid from the Tower of the Archfiend, but now i’m just sort of…wandering around. I’ve decided to try descending into the Tower more and just treat the game like a roguelike for the time being until i have a better grip on what i “should” be doing.
also tried out Fire Emblem (NES). i was kind of tempted to buy the limited edition because it looks really fun, but didn’t because i don’t really need more game paraphernalia laying around and i don’t love Fire Emblem that much.
that said, yeah, FE1 is really fun! i think the “crunchiness” of the NES suits it better than the softer tones and feels of the SNES/GBA, which had been my initial intro to the series, and didn’t grip me. it wasn’t until the DS games, really, which i think is also probably true for the majority of the Western world.
anyway, it’s fun to play this one and also fun to speculate about what it would have been like to play this game when it came out on an actual NES. i think i would have been really into it.
For a third time Sonic Lost World ate my save so despite me mildly enjoying it that was that.
Then tried to play Ladystalker on my RP2 and that hung at the title screen.
So I watched the first 20 minutes of Troy.
Has anyone made Sonic Lost Save jokes yet
sayonara wild hearts is a fun set of playable music videos but as a game it feels like the bonus levels to a different game?
More of this please. I could honestly play this kind of game for hundreds of hours if there were more tracks.
But are we just reinventing Beatmania over here
it’s more like reinventing the QTE segments of sonic games
ouch, wanted to try that game
SWH is a fun time but my experience with it was playing on an iPhone X when Apple Arcade first released and i had a free month. i’d say for that, it was pretty spectacular. it’s a neat game, but it’s not something i think i’ll go back to at any point, other than maybe to show someone, i guess.
I adore Sayonara Wild Hearts and calling it a collection of playable music videos is absolutely accurate. What made it really great for me is that the songs the music videos were for were totally my jam musically, and the videos made for the songs were all VERY EXTREMELY my jam visually.
I said when it was originally announced that this was a game made specifically for me.
yeah the aesthetic really is more than good enough to carry the whole thing for me
I appreciated the sort of Warioware style of introducing little mechanics without explaining them and letting you figure them out, and them being mostly figure-out-able quickly enough that you could still get through to the end of a stage without forewarning.
The most annoying design tic is “hidden” paths or items that can only be seen after the opportunity to get them passed by, obviously a sop to “replayability” and a kind of shooter-esque memorization skill which I don’t think is super compelling in what is otherwise an art object, we’re not talking about like Deathsmiles here.
I can see how the game would be very emotionally affecting for people in certain stages of their lives but I just can’t give a shit about people’s breakups any more.
