Had a streak of maybe six 1st place finishes in SMB 35. Then I had to go and play a special battle.

14th.

so i beat Deltarune last night! i am now completely caught up on this series that ā€œthe kidsā€ love. jk, i really like it, too.

my impressions of Deltarune are that it’s a more-cohesive game experience than Undertale, and it’s more fun to actually play, but because it’s only one chapter, it’s hard to get a real firm grasp on whether or not i like it ā€œmoreā€ than Undertale.

Undertale really won me over with some of its melancholy music choices and how, even though it’s a short game, you do end up feeling a kinship with these characters and enemies you meet throughout the game. i feel like this is also going to be the case with Deltarune, but it also feels like Deltarune is going to be a much longer game?

so, i’d say my feelings on it in comparison to Undertale are mostly neutral, and Susie is a lot of fun, and i’m looking forward to seeing the rest of it.

Loved the visual upgrade to battles. Would love to see them lean heavy into mechanics since they’re obvs very creative but thats also obvs not what they’re going for

replace all rpg battle music with Rude Buster

Oh I figured this out. This is trying to simulate the feeling of swinging a weapon horizontally as it arcs from one side, out in front of you, and then to you other side.

So when you press R2 not only do the haptic vibrations start from the side of your controller that corresponds to the side you’re starting your swing from, it also locks your trigger when your weapon reaches the peak of the arc in front of you. Then it gives way as the weapon swings to your other side and the haptic vibration transitions to that side of the controller. It only happens on the first swing though, probably so it’s easier to mash out the entire chain.

Huh!

I got a cd key for this thing with my videocard does anyone else have it and does it have any kind of co-op thing other than the zombies

yeah so

something i didn’t say, because i felt like it would come off too negative, is that Deltarune really feels like more of the same. but i don’t mean that negatively, per se. i’m a huge Mega Man fan; ā€œmore of the sameā€ is not a thing i inherently dislike.

but that said, it does feel like a pretty direct continuation of what the first game already did, without really changing very much in how it’s done.

like i kept waiting for the game to surprise me with something about how not fighting isn’t possible or was actually going to be the wrong way to do things this time around.

possible big spoiler, and i’m sorry if you already got this and i’m just being an asshole, but the big difference which the game tries to drive home is that none of your choices matter, including attempting a genocide run, which won’t happen. you can’t kill anyone. so the twist is that you are LOCKED into a pacifist run, at least for this chapter.

Playing Stick of Truth (2013) in the year 2020 after having not watched South Park since S10 and isn’t it an experience

I think that’s probably the best relationship to have with Stick of Truth, because even when it came out I was surprised by how little it had to do with contemporary South Park. It’s mostly based in stuff from the early seasons

What I mean is that looking at it with 2020 eyes, some of the subject matter is actually shocking again

Anyone know what game this group is referencing? I initially guessed Until Dawn but after looking up the characters it doesn’t really line up. There are a couple of people with beanies but they aren’t colored like that.

Purple beanie could be a reference to Ashley from Until Dawn? That’s immediately what I thought of when I saw it.

I just played this, a short (I think) walking sim. I don’t think I got to the end if there is an end. I fell off the edge of the world during the driving part.

Ah, so it was Until Dawn. I knew I had the image of someone having a purple beanie but when I googled the game this was the picture I was seeing most often.

Astro’s Playroom is cute and references all the classic Playstation games you remember and love.

Resident Evil 1

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

Monster Hunter

That duck demo-turned-Super Rub a Dub

Crash Bandicoot

Concrete Genie

and Robinson: The Journey

There are also references to Silent Hill 2, Siren, and ICO!

I was more trying to make the build up to Concrete Genie and Robinson: The Journey (the latter of which is one of the 10 game’s officially incompatible with the PS5), but yeah, it’s filled with these small references and they’re all very cute.

There’s Demon’s Souls in there too:
