Games You Played Today: Actress Again: Current Code (Part 1)

I was playing as Guan Yu because I had to rep the Shu.

Unplugging and re-plugging the camera every time I use PSVR is a pain in the butt.

As long as I continue this project, you’ll have many chances!

i keep poking at the idea that undertale mostly hits for younger people and honestly i think that’s not entirely the truth. like, part of the reason it hits for me is because my family fucking stinks, and undertale is about a family of misfits who will literally die for each other, while still clashing in lots of different ways. it’s juvenile sure, but it’s comforting and fun and also has a billion layers to unpack if one is so inclined.

so for me it hits because (1) i have a broken family who didn’t know how to show affection and (2) i’m probably on the spectrum. not saying that everyone who is like me will have this hit the same way, but I do think that it’s more than just ā€œi was the right age.ā€ That seems dismissive to me.

finished a replay of echo night 2 after enough years to kinda forget what’s in it. I love exploring these kinds of ps1 horror environments, but I felt the game was sorely lacking personality? despite the horror theme it’s really just one of those task running games where you help a bunch of people out and are supposed to feel good about it, and that’s a game type I usually like.

but like, the condition for me enjoying that is that the people you run around helping out are characters, who relate to each other and the world they are in in ways that make you like/dislike them, whereas the ghosts you help out here rarely have any character beyond the one thing you need to do for them to help them pass on.

I liked my time with this tho. I just enjoy walking around haunted mansions.

also, the game scores and ranks you at the end, as many japanese horror games do

ā€œaverageā€ faded in right after the A and I absolutely lost it

Yeah, this isn’t just something I’d heard about the game, it’s roughly all I felt like I’d heard about it going in–I knew almost nothing else other than a few character designs! I knew I had a pacifist route, a genocide route, and presumably a middling halfway route I could take. I’ll always wonder how different my fairly tepid (and declining, if anything, as I think, talk, and read about the game more) reaction might have been had that not been the case.

I feel the same way; Echo Night is so close to something great and moody without being overtly harsh, able to sustain a delicate mood, but it lacks a driving core or perspective.

I think they could have had the game almost exactly the same but given the ghosts more character and drama. like, I wish there was an emotional arc and resolution more often, even if small, to helping them pass on

will eventually get around to playing echo night beyond and hoping that gets there, but even if it doesn’t I have high hopes from the setting and the way ghosts look

Been playing a surprising amount of Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds AKA PUBG AKA ā€˜plunkbat’ over the last three weeks ago.

Oh, not the ā€œrealā€ game, I haven’t loaded into a single actual match at all. Instead, I’ve found a couple communities that do Custom Rules Match events twice a week or so, and it turns out that the most ā€œrealisticā€-oriented FPS Battle Royale with loads of weird behaviors and bugs is great for playing goof-ass multiplayer modes. Even when we’re doing something straight-forward like team deathmatch, a fair percentage of the players are spending all their time trying to get sick air using vehicles that the person running the event is spawning in randomly (I got killed last night by a spawned tuk-tuk landing on top of me).

You need to be playing Arma buddy

Arma is not a Battle Royale, duder. Also it doesn’t look nearly as fun to have a couple beers in and then do doughnuts in an empty field until somebody hits you with a rocket launcher.

I killed Lyndon Baines Johnson in Arma

Pubg is literally an Arma mod. Imagine doing all that same craziness but with Chinook helicopters and architecture you can plop down yourself in real time

As always, it comes down to the community, and the Arma community…does not inspire confidence in terms of goof action.

I agree with all your points and was not trying to be reductive or dissmissive with my point.
