I’m very sad I only have 1 kiryu kazuma game left, I feel more connected to him than ever after seeing him trying to just be nice to a girl and she moves in and starts making him food and staying the night while he completely ignores her and months later she says “I’m ready… for physical contact” and he’s just “Hm interesting. So, when are you going home?”

Outrun 2006: thanks to folks here, i revisited this one today. it’s still very dreamy and fun to play( although maybe not as graphically pristine as it was in my memory. a shame we will probably not get another of these, but it still plays well and is my favorite of the series.
DQXIS: still making my way through this. hard to tell how far i am since i feel like i recall it being like 100 hours and i am fairly deep into it according to the walkthrough i occasionally look at, but maybe there are surprises in store. the qol changes in S are so good that it’s stupid they didn’t just release the game this way to begin with.

this is kind of how it’s supposed to feel. it’s written in a very episodic manner, comprised of many equal-length chapters across a certain number of acts. it’s easy to know when you enter a new act, so that’s really the best barometer for progress. there are also the obvious hints like when you get access to flight. alternatively I can just tell you exactly where you are if you’re curious and don’t mind minor spoilers lol

I went in and finished Serious Sam 4 and I think it’s a better game than Doom Eternal? I get that what Croteam does has one lane and people will probably come in after this post and go “well actually SS has always been bad” but they just fucking do that thing they like and they do it well and it’s identifably a SS game whereas DE, there’s arguments that is it really Doom or all that stuff and
Eternal is good, I like it, but it doesn’t feel successful in the same way 2016 was whereas SS is just The Same Goddamn Bullshit every time but they does it and I likes it so

i put some time into breath of fire 3 and 4 concurrently over the past couple days
breath of fire 3 is like patrolling this here sandwich
breath of fire 4 is kind of a stunning mood piece so far despite being beholden to so much cheesy capcoms vidosgam tradition. it is an oceanic desert of a jrpg. beneath the art and music it’s not all that interesting but it maintains a mood and sells itself so incredibly well that i think it’s pretty cool! and i hope sticking with it is worth it.

Important Tank Mechanic Simulator update: turns out that welder actually does do something! Sometimes those tanks you dig up have a hole in them somewhere, presumably from a shot penetrating. Though they’re awful clean circles but they do have scorch marks around them that given some of the angles the holes can be you can’t really see them, just the blackened area, so I initially thought on some it was just some weird camo thing going on because oddly enough the scorch marks only show up after you paint the things. But anyway the welder can fix the hole and remove the scorching. This just isn’t mentioned anywhere I can see.

Well… I’m glad I stuck with it. Weirdly feels like the highlight of the game is in the last 1/6th or so. Some of the strongest level design (aside from one comically stupid pixel hunt to not get the worst ending), and the weirdo hybrid classes I picked for my party finally came together in a way that made combat way more interesting - also there were finally fights that weren’t just randomly generated “5 of the same guy in a pack” encounters, which would’ve been nice to have throughout the rest of the game.
Only the beginning and the end really feel like actual dungeon crawling, which makes sense since they were probably going for a “wizardry ain’t just a dungeon crawler anymore!” thing, which makes it kind of funny to me because I picked it up because I wanted a dungeon crawler.
Still really mixed on the game, but I wanna write a blog post about it, so I’ll save it for now, but I will say the hardships of the game combined with how often (sometimes annoyingly so) the party talks made me really attached to my guys, enough to make me want to draw them:

not always being able to have the humble golem in your party is fucked up…there were stretches of the DS version where i didnt really know what to do with my fourth party slot but i totally see what you mean
I can’t have my whole family in my party. I want to have my wife and kids. I can only pick one child, which is fucked up. I have to settle for my wife and monster of choice.
