Nobody has given me shit personally for these two, but Kingdom Hearts and Godzilla (PS3/PS4).
In khs case I’m sorry you can’t remember names I guess
And Godzilla is perfectly fine as a game where you play as huge monsters, like of course it’s slow and clunky you’re a living mountain!!!
As for game so have been judged for liking, Drakengard 3 is decent. Sure the frame rate is absolute garbage most of the time but it’s sure interesting.

cw: liking things
I listened to an interview with the lead writer and it’s (intentionally) serious and (intentionally) a guilt trip.
He thinks he’s a Brilliant and Excellent Writer who Made A Very Important Work The Medium Needs, etc.
“I am an excellent writer” he literally says, re: himself
romancing saga 2 is one of the best games on the snes and lightning returns owns
i mean lol: https://youtu.be/rS6QWXCfpr4?t=145
I probably put more hours into Wii Super Mario Strikers Charged than any other aside from 1 or 2 others. It’s phenomenal and I love it, but I hardly ever see anyone who was into it as much as me. Not hated, just ignored compared to something like Mario Tennis
That’s where I begin to practice Death of the Author (the “intentionally” was just a crutch to begin with), interpret his wording as charitably as possible, or, failing that, assume that he’s cowardly capitulating in interviews since people loved the guilt trip read and want to praise him for it (I recall some journo wrote an entire book about it lol), since it’d be easier for him to take credit for that than say “I wanted to make a killing adventure with a sense of irony, humor, and seriously metal (and meta) feedback”. I also think the White Phosphorus scene is overrated.
I don’t think it’s a great work of fiction; it’s just a superior wanton killing adventure in the vein of Postal but not unplayably crass.
I chose the ending where I shot the mirror instead of myself, and then I attempted to murder the evac team sent to rescue me just to be consistent with my character (dying in the process), and I deeply love the game for having that be a canon option.
I mean, you kill virtually everyone else in the game, why not kill the author too?
What, “Hey go deliver this package to this guy at some point in time.” is great, they just give you a simple pointer and cut you loose. Especially as someone who is fine with the newer TES games and FO3 for nothing more than the wandering, it beats the hell out of the far too long railroaded tutorials and scripted events beating you over the head with a main quest I don’t really give a shit about.
Also Seyda Neen immediately has a really cool quest in it and is a microcosm of many of the awesome things you can do in the game
Ocarina of Time doesn’t seem too well loved on SB, but every time I do a playthrough I can’t help but love it. I think it is still better as an overall game than Majora, even though I prefer that game’s atmosphere and characters.
I think Shining Force II is another one that most of SB would recommend giving a pass while I still hold it as one of my top 5. Most of that comes down to nostalgia.
I think if you put it along side other SRPGS it comes off looking limp, whereas if you think of it as a Dragon Quest like with the random encounter system replaced with a tactics-lite battle system, it fares much better. Also it has centaurs and birdmen
I have a thing for third person 3D action games that take place in box-y rooms because Curse of Darkness and Killer Is Dead are both ideal. It’s like a Ramones-esque simplicity in level design form.
I’ve always thought the IC/SB hivemind stance toward Ocarina of Time was kind of silly. It obviously isn’t a bad game, but we want to define ourselves in contrast to all the folks who insist it’s the best game ever.
I am bummed that y2k wasnt as depicted in the most under rated FPS, Faceball 2000.
Castlevania 2 is somewhere in my top five.
I’ve been grinding away at the last two trophies of Agents of Mayhem, and I legitimately love this game.
It’s not Saints Row, but there are enough characters from and references to Saints Row to tickle me. It’s structured like an eighties cartoon serial and by the gods I LOVE so many of the characters. Their personality comes through in every mission dialogue, which each one of them have individually, which is amazing to think about.
The game’s got faults for sure, but dammit I love this world and these characters and want MORE. I wanna know Persephone’s backstory. I wanna know what the other ministries of LEGION are up to. I want more Mayhem!
Haunting Ground
Red Earth/Warzard
Solar Striker
PN03
Metal Slug 4
The 3rd Birthday (fun combat)
The Bouncer
This is so true. It had a couple of people make Let’s Plays for it and they all abandoned it not even halfway through lol
The difficulty was apparently fucked. It never got anywhere near challenging… I thought it looked cool but that’s a bummer
ehhhh
the Geography of Balmora and the way they encourage you to travel there via silt strider doesn’t really play to the game’s strengths imo
like it’s admirably unbounded but they don’t give you enough opportunities to get sidetracked on the way there and once you hit the part of the blades questline where Caius says “OK now go level up” it makes you wish you’d fucked off more before trying to get that first hour of info dumps straight in your head
I really like Morrowind but I think the beginning stands out as mediocre
Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland should be a huge cult favourite but instead it got mixed to bad reviews and nobody talks about it. It really is like nothing else and I wish I still had my DS just for this one
As far as reviled SB games go, hook me up with all these portable Igavanias
I’ve been wanting to revisit this game for a while now, but I don’t have my PS2 hooked up currently. It probably emulates just fine, but I’d rather play it on a television. I’m hoping that the rumors are true about the PS5 being compatible with every past PlayStation model.
I think the R-Type Final thread was one of the first times I actually posted at IC, after lurking for some time. IC Forum Archive :: View topic - let's talk about R-TYPE FINAL
As to the topic, my best example of this is probably the “Johnny” series by Kim Okkerstrøm. (Though the telling me I’m wrong part was many years ago and rare even then. I guess I just don’t have those types of conversations about video games.)
