man Hybrid Heaven has such an oppressively desolate subterranean vibe it kinda rules but I’ve never been able to stick with it for more than 3 or 4 hours. someday perhaps I’ll achieve the necessary neo-Bressonian brainstate and find transcendence in the brutality of boredom
Play it long enough and the endless red- and blue-washed cybertunnels, the roaming pig-men, and the regular pause to aim your little laser pistol and swoosh the cameras seeps into your spine.
You ever dream the King’s Field tunnel intro? I get the elevator dream from this, often.

Superman (Taito, arcade 1988)
Man I’d forgotten about that game! Sort of a beat-em-up shooter thing.

And weirdly I just tumbld something that ties both of those together:
Venice Mugs contender for most videogame videogame of all time
Pac-Man, Dig Dug, & Galaxian on the NABU Computer
Astal [Saturn] by SEGA
Oh the graphics
Fatal Labyrinth Walkthrough
(Mega Drive)
Huh an actual Rogue-like roguelike on MD/Genesis, by Sega. Wonder why they made the SFX so annoying, though.
probably because it was a download game in 1991, so they had to cut filesize corners wherever they could. as a result, the master system/game gear game dragon crystal is basically thesame game but with better, more colourful graphics
Oh yeah and the sound is much nicer
I think I read all that stuff in the Wikipedia article or something and managed to read right through it without processing it. =o The fact that they had a download service back then probably hasn’t managed to soak in, for one. Also it’s in the the Genesis Classics Collection or whatever it is that I have on PS4 so I COULD play this one which is probably why it bothers me. They need to make a Master System collection with the actual good games in it.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Manhattan Missions (Distinctive Software) (MS-DOS) [1991]
Star Wars Chess (1993)
DOS
Something distinctly disturbing about seeing Vader kill Chewbacca right through the intestine with a lightsaber and so forth.
Man I LOVED Battle Chess as a kid, the idea of there being bespoke, cool fight animations for each combination of pieces just really lit up my “what if Batman fought Superman” brain. Had no idea there was a Star Wars licensed knockoff. I need a Battle Chess knockoff animation compilation
I played a LEGO version as a kid all the time. They were either western themed or pirates. I think it’s what got me to love chess.
