FPGA World Tour

The lit torch is doing the Mario “owww waaa hoo ha ha ha” thing when his ass catches on fire under the hood, but the text moves so fast the N64 can’t keep up.

is this online somewhere i can read?

i searched for relevant terms in google, checked the github, randomizer issues list, and comments on the romhacking page and i can’t find where this is documented, is why i ask.

Tried looking for a solution on the mister discord (which needs my phone number??) and there were multiple hits for Redux being crash prone.

i was searching the MiSTer discord and the people mentioning crashes seemed to exclusively be referring to the NES game

all the comments referencing the n64 version seem to just be recommending it. i searched pretty exhaustively.

btw, this comment:

the “buggy” is re: the 30 FPS hack, not redux

idk if you know this, but games crashing on N64 is an obsession of mine. really just bugs in general… but games crashing on real hardware is even more critical to my OCD. this thread in my head will not rest until i understand better

if you check the MiSTer N64 or ares github issues lists, you’ll see evidence of this obsession

i did see a few people saying they had finished redux on the core, but have yet to find anyone mention crashing, torches, text speed.

maybe you could just tell me exactly what is happening in your game? that might help me track down someone else mentioning it.

sorry to be elle.

I can send you my rom later as well. Maybe it is just bad! And I did search again on the mister discord I swear I saw more messages about this 7 hours ago! Weird!

the second I have a deku stick touch a torch fire it freezes.

The Mister is a really great device that I love to use.

You scared me off from those handheld emulation consoles and now you’re scaring me off from the mister.

I wish more cores had savestates but otherwise the mister is really great!

every one of the Android handhelds seems like the same and you gotta do the rigamaroll in setting up

whereas the Mister is a mature platform and you can have it setup and playing whatever stupid old game you like in under an hour and the fact that the experience is reproduceable in clones is a good sign

and then there’s still room to go down the rabbit hole and do headass shit, like setting up a Pi as an MT-32 or shoving it into a JAMMA cabinet

Highly recommend setting up zaparoo (minor headassery) - makes it way easier to launch games (you can do it from your phone (or whatever)) and if you are willing to track down an nfc reader making your own little carts to launch games is really fun

Oh yeah the Mister is real easy to use. I haven’t had the best luck with like, old computers, and the biggest hiccup I had with N64 was having the right database text file, but once it’s set up it’s a lot easier than most emulators and stuff I’ve used.

Arcade game Juno First just got a core. Juno First’s cabinet has a star overlay that really pops with the video graphics and it is a shame there isn’t a way to replicate that.

yall need to stop getting clickbaited by numbskull youtubers, those are toy projects on the arm chip, nothing to do with fpga. nothing has changed nor will it till one of the established groups or a competitive upstart decides its worth their time
