It’s not nice to play with people’s hearts.
Jessie is obviously gay and half the guys in Avalanche are horny and deserve it anyway
Barret is only horny for JUSTICE
This sounds like a problem of leadership to me. People won’t solve problems they are capable of if they feel leadership might be mercurial. And then getting the director into the room lets everyone just agree to go with their solution because it’s at least somewhere to go.
I may be projecting a bit
credit to them that this reading is not exclusive but still passes with flying colours
yeah i’d more likely blame overall organizational disarray than any one person for XIII’s troubles. XIV 1.0 was famously a disaster and Nomura didn’t have a thing to do with it, XII had years of problems and changing staff. it just sounds like square was a shitshow for a few years?
sakaguchi come home
Oh definitely, I don’t mean to imply that this is a strictly Nomura problem, all the big japanese publishers nearly imploded when team sizes grew beyond 100 people. Square in particular seems to have had real issues with in-house engines which can delay projects for years and years.
So glad Japan as a whole is finally getting over its Not Invented Here problem
Our games must reinvent the franchise and the RPG genre every time, ship on a brand-new engine with cutting-edge graphics and be a hearty, 40-hour experience with no compromises. What do you mean that’s not sustainable?
Square has been Shinra the whole time!
from all the reading I’ve done on it, it seemed to mostly be that they would design a trailer of what they hope the game will look like and then have to work backwards from there to actually make the game, couple this with all their engine troubles and how they had hundreds of artists with no direction working for years at a time
this hurts a lot of studios
you spend months polishing up assets you know you’re going to throw out, the people left to work on the real game suddenly have all these new bottlenecks because those they need are off making fake content, and by the time the trailer is done the art style has changed and even the stuff you thought could be salvaged is trashed
If you look at a project that took five years, I guarantee you every asset in the game was made in the last two-and-a-half when they actually knew what they wanted to do (read: it got so expensive they couldn’t change their minds any more)
FF XIII was apparently mostly made in the last year of the game dev cycle.
Apparently, the sequels (XIII 2 and LR) were in part experiments for how they could actually develop and release games within a sane span of time, along with all the FFXIV reboot stuff, etc.
The only thing I’ll put Nomura on blast for his his sense of taste. I read him as a guy that just wants “to do” and isn’t so good at planning or guiding a whole ship to new fertile lands and just ends up falling back on places that are safe for him.
I won’t fault his skills and work ethic.
I’m not a fan of it but I’ll give him Rufus’s new duds for keeping the belt count low on everyone else.
when do i get to remove barret’s emperor sunglasses
Nomura’s love of belts and buckles is Good.
Yeah I was surprised at how good and restrained most of his designs for XV and VIIR were, although that may also be because he worked on those with Roberto Ferrari.
I’m wondering if it would make sense to play through the Midgar part of PS1 FF7 before continuing. I was not planning to replay FF7 to X-2 because I don’t feel the game design of those generations values the player’s time highly enough. But that problem got more acute starting in FF9, and perhaps that small section is short and sweet enough to be worth? How many hours is it, anyway?
