after all of the not so subtle hints this is time travel or some alt universe thing, cloud straight up has a flash forward to aeris’ death the second time you meet her in the church, very excited for the swerve ending and the fuckin’ twitter meltdown that ensues
Reminds me of how XII was built around automating the tedium of turn based FF, except here once you’re challenged in combat I find I spend a lot of time in slow mo cycling between menus anyway. I wish I could have some form of control over the AI, who are mostly good but require the constant switching for ATB and also do things like walk up to attack turrets that are, quite clearly, draining all their HP.
I like the gag that she keeps coming on to you and giving you valuable gemstones, and both seem equally alarming at first
I believe this represents catholicism
all materia are either found on the ground in the middle of nowhere(?) or handed to you by a terrifying woman
I think the fact that you find her terrifying says a lot more about you than about the cartoon character
Yeah, it’s blatant but I don’t care for that sort of meta direction. Either tell a story or don’t bother.
on the contrary, the only way i will care about this for reasons other than wanting to fuck cloud is if nomura turns it into kingdom hearts again
Still chewing on the Colosseum event, bandits and arenas already lap with Godhand vibes but then the whole thing was pretty hilarious. Good jorb
This game gets an A+ for its cat content.
Sakaguchi on FF7R:
The soundtrack is really good, it’s dynamic and has so many layers. But too many songs are orchestral and missing the rock and industrial instrumentation of the original. Compare:
Where’s the synths, electric organs, guitars? It should sound like a prog rock album.
no bite, no attack, just drowning
the same trudging feel of those terrible video game orchestra concerts where symphonies sight-read songs meant to be performed by a tight 4 people; the sonic equivalent of surrounding your argument in verbiage because you’re not sure where you’re going
Dark’s soundtrack as opposed to Demon’s (daaaaaaannnng)
Yeah I had the same concerns about the music suffering that way but theres some fuller versions that come along, thankfully more energized variety. Still wish it had more of that electronic character and gloom though
to be fair that specific song does have a prog-ier version with synths, gutars, organs etc, but your sentiment that this is final fantasy 7: the movie: the soundtrack is generally correct
whoops yes I mixed them up! I have heard some sampled clangs and stuff here and there. I know if there is guitar it’s going to carry the melody like J-rock.
yeah the soundtrack is making me want to start a psx ffvii playthrough pretty bad
