my only real lasting complaint is that they play the overworld music in midgar and that just feels wrong. it should only be the depressing moody midgar music! don’t blow the overworld theme wad so soon!
also midgar needs more bio mutant freak citizens so barret stops sticking out like a sore thumb… hoping wall market will remedy that

time to triple post: this post ends with the phrase “search your heart you know it to be true” BUT i have too much knowledge of jrpgsn ánime and comics but 100% bet real money that roche and other new characters join the party and sacrifice themselves or help the heroes beat the new villains who are blindsided by the heroes getting new help
I… like this a lot. I don’t feel the least bit bad or stupid about that.
I’m really enjoying the battle system. Switching party members feels good and interesting enough.
It’ll take a while to parse out how I think of the game as both an independent experience and an adaptation. It’s really interesting to think about the choices made.
And good lord it’s pretty.

my thoughts on the battle system are basically the same as those on the rest of the game, ie for all the strange choices they’ve made, it’s nice that it’s not exactly terrible
I still think of ME3 as like the high water mark of a basically conservative modern final fantasy game that wasn’t made by the lunatics who were making decisions at square through the FFXIII era and this basically holds up on that basis, it’s weirder and better and worse
the English voice cast is totally unacceptable though
they should’ve gotten desus for Barret, he did neo yokio. and uhhhhh Jennifer Hale for Tifa and Timothee Chalamet for Cloud

I am totally content with the english VA’s. it does not come close to how excellent the VA and dialog writing in XV was but it’s still good enough to mildly enhance the experience and rarely detracts from it.
I want to switch to japanese but there is SO much incidental dialog I might miss if I do?? like it all happens too fast to keep up with the little ticker on the UI

I am liking the combat in this more than FFXV, but I think I don’t understand either of those systems. Something makes me think that it’s possible to avoid all damage and be like n in-cutscene Kingdom Hearts character flying through everything at the exact right time, but what I have learned from experimentation seems to suggest you absolutely will take quite a lot of damage during long fights? It looks like an action game, I want to play it like Bloodborne and just play well enough to never need to use a potion, but you can’t play this like that I think.
Feel like whatever this style of combat is it’s actually a revolution and I just need deprogramming to see it. Like if old FF games were the face of the clock, they’ve just given me the coggy underface and told me to understand what time it is and I CAN’T!

I had a bit of an aha moment when I realized a lot of enemies are vulnerable to interrupts at specific times because it feels sludgier than that at first and then you’re like “whoa hey hang on here this is for real”
yeah countering is actually A Thing
i’ve gotten in the habit of using Assess on everything, it’ll actually tell you stuff like “attacking after _____ will increase stagger” along with all the usual elemental info
oh also, if you’re controlling cloud you can parry mid-combo by switching to punisher mode as you’re about to get hit

I was not prepared for Cloud’s reunion/first meeting with Tifa at the 7th Heaven being spoiled by two slum drunks gossiping loudly within earshot over how hot she is, nor was I prepared for all her 3 Dimensions for that matter
