Final Fantasy 7: The Original, The Remake, The Legacy

That track’s pretty okay until they reveal that everything has to be One-Winged-Angel now

I’m definitely gonna chase this with FF7 PS1 for sure.

I seriously cheered when the dumb hell house showed up.

did all the honeybee inn stuff today. it’s great, it’s stupid, it’s campy, it’s as over-the-top as it should be. the one thing i was worried about this whole time was whether or not ff7r was just going to be a playable advent children, with no emotion or heart to it. the game had been calming those fears, and then wall market happens and like, yep, this is good. my only complaint- my ONLY complaint, is that the various sidequests to get better parts for cloud’s dress are gone, and instead it’s down to beating the owner of the honeybee inn to a dance-off, which is still amazing, but not the same.

also why is rudie in this game and why is his role being sick and really needing to go to the bathroom

i dunno i think cloudncould have had a pretty well paying and easy findom gig lined up

when she made this face and said psych!, what part was the psych out?

I think it was ‘being attracted to cloud’

this is the part of the game where it finally clicked for me. having spent the whole first quarter in seemingly familiar places - this was midgar as i remembered it

lightly skimming this thread i have mixed feelings about having canceled my preorder (i am gonna wanna play this eventually) but a lot of what i’m reading confirms more about what i feared this would be than that it’s things i’d hoped it would be

realistically YEAH i wanna play this trash, but… maybe soon, we’ll see if i can resist for long

Tifa just saw some stairs and said “These look like stairs”. Don’t know why someone would write that line.

honestly, this is best pictures material, because of that infamous text box.

Alas:
now who’s the slum drunk, Sakaguchi-san? :sunglasses:

the game is leaning way into being dumb shonen anime and I’m honestly enjoying it on that level

It’s completely ridiculous camp and I am so glad it does not take itself any more seriously than it has to.

yeah I am loving it hard. I had some reservations but they have pretty much all melted away.

biggest issues still have to do with the soundtrack. hard agree that everything is way too “orchestral” but given that it’s still way better than it could have been. I mostly miss the victory theme. but in general I feel like it’s really hit or miss in terms of nailing the atmosphere of various key segments. when it’s good it’s really good though.

I think they actually nailed the combat system, at least like I find myself making similar kinds of decisions with resource management that I did in the original and that’s honestly kind of impressive. I really just wish the camera wasn’t so terrible during combat. it would be nice if when you paused for command inputs the camera panned back to give you an overview of the whole scene. if it did that I don’t know if I’d have any complaints. it’s fun! it’s punchy! it’s snappy! it’s challenging in interesting ways! and it keeps growing on me.

every time I come across a segment that feels like it’s going to be some bullshit busywork it ends up being way more thoughtful and includes enough significant narrative elements for me to not care. like, the whole segment where you have to turn off the sun lamps is kind of tedious but also expands upon the world-building in an interesting way and also gives more depth the moral ambiguity of avalanche’s actions.

on that note I’m actually quite pleased that the added twist of “shinra did 9/11” with the mako reactor bombing ended up not really defanging avalanche as a radical eco-terrorist group, because barret immediately is just like fuck it can’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs and everyone is just like yeah true lol

I really hate the mysterious swirling death robe things because I just know they are going to lead to some seriously dumbass kingdom hearts bullshit but for now I’m just kidding myself that the entire reason they are there is to explain why jesse wasn’t on the second bombing mission.

anyway I’m already too enamored to care I don’t know if it’s possible for this game to be dumb enough for me to stop liking it.

and I really love that avalanche is also involved in mutual aid, direct action and community organizing on a local level. is squeenix like secretly woke?

a few months ago, i said something on twitter like “the problem with the final fantasy vii remake is that it seems to be getting rid of all the stuff i love about the original”

this thread is making me think that i am wrong and i should play this game

wait

Organization XIII (+XIV) is based on the Sephiroth “clones”

god dammit, how did I not realize that

they even underline it in Dream Drop Distance and III, where some of them are literally the same person at different stages of Nojimania
