it still strikes me as weird that people were so affected by aeris’s death when final fantasy IV was just killing off major player characters left and right
edit: triple posting in a final fantasy thread like it’s 2005 baby let’s goooooooo

video games are back, baby
my interpretation has always been phoenix downs are more for people who are knocked out, not dead. potions etc. are basically energy drinks.
and ethers uh…get you high? which raises interesting questions about magic
again, i think it’s because VII was the entry point for a lot of people. before that, it was rumors of how to revive General Leo.
i think they try to do the same for Polom and Porom when they turn to stone.
who else do they murder in ff4
assuming roche will end up joining the gang by the end of this saga
keep drifting between ‘you know, the combat isn’t bad!’ and ‘lol this shit sux’
IIRC FF4 killed and « revived » Palom and Porom, Yang, Cid, Rydia
Only Tellah and Fusoya stayed dead
I’d say Aeris’ death was shocking and bold because older final fantasies only killed off old mentors or guys who were in your party for 5 minutes. Not anyone near the importance as Main Love Interest
Aeris is the main love interest because she has the highest % to be the Gold Saucer date
I am about 4 hours into replaying FF4 and I’ve had like a dozen party members and half of them have already died at least once
It’s so fucking good
general leo is the main love interest in ff6
I always felt there was a little sexual tension between him and terra (even if terra is a lesbian in my headcanon)
palom, porom, tellah, yang, and cid all “die” (but some of those deaths are more permanent than others)
sorry felix but I just can’t bi that
i really appreciate the way ff4 treats rpg system elements like major spells and class changes as diegetic plot points, like how it stylizes meteo with the spell symbol in tellah’s narrative dialogue about using it against golbez and includes it in his combat menu. the series leaned away from it later as a gesture towards realism etc but it’s definitely there.
I sure am glad that I was able to replay the demo again before 39% INSTALLING: GO DO SOMETHING ELSE WITH YOUR LIFE put an end to all that
As much as this product makes me dopey with nostalgia I do wonder if there really is a method to all this swishy choreography while Actively waiting in Time Battles that approaches skill
this game rules and i love it and it’s great
i like the combat, especially once you really start to come to grips with all the shit you can actually do. i like how the new character is the most nomura-ass thing, and everyone else’s reaction is to look down on him and call him a dumbass, instead of letting him read poetry for twenty minutes, or whatever the deal with crisis core was. i like how it’s balancing both the Actually Serious parts with the comical post-16 bit era humor. i like the new stuff, that fleshes out the other members of avalanche, giving them some character beyond “goofy terrorists that die really fast.”
i’m still kind of iffy on a few things, mostly regarding sephiroth. but seeing as how the game isn’t done yet, and i’m only just now getting past the second reactor, i’ll take a “wait and see” approach to things.
that being said, fuck this game because texas is no longer canon
this might be the dumbest game i ever played
I love the detail that he learns meteo midway through the game but doesn’t have enough MP to use it. and then when he does use it it kills him. kind of interesting implications for how MP works too
Way too much of this game takes place in daylight.
its me the final fantasy xiv guy. they do this CONSTANTLY in the story. like its actually incredibly cheesy to have a huge peasant rebellion and then a bunch of white mages walk through and touch the dead bodies and OH THEY’RE FINE (but not everyone!)
its nice to be able to choose which deaths have consequence for narratives sake
umm i am not saying anything mean about final fantasy 7 i hope youre all having a wild ride
