this was huge problem for me w the demo, I felt like I was almost being obliged to play it slower just for the sake of feeling something
the frequent reuse of npc models is good, very dragon quest when you see four of the same person in a corridor
still super impressed with how well this runs and looks on a base ps4
this dialogue somehow sounds as mistranslated as the original
whoaaaa this is uneven
swings wildly between novel + endearing + not good
actually I’m leaning toward “the only good part is the character and environment modeling”
the dialogue, the pacing, and the combat are all questionable to bad
i’m having a good time
totally makes sense the way people talk in this
are you telling me this whole time we thought potions cured wounds but the whole cast of FF7 is just slamming Monster Energy Drink
Waiting for FF to actually accept potions and phoenix downs into its story the same way Dragon Quest was able to. Like why couldn’t they have stuck a potion on Wedge’s ass, or revive Aerith with a phoenix down.
somebody please actually make a jrpg where the combat system is like in a manga where they have a back and forth mental duel for 4 volumes until he finally finds a crack in the the guys mental armor then it cuts back to reality and they’re still just standing there only one guy now has a single drop of sweat rolling down his forehead cause he knows it’s over and they run up to each other and swing their swords and one of them falls over
did you ever play Dissidia?
This game is sort of creeping towards that, at least with the shop signage (“TODAY’S DEAL: HI-POTION”)
We’d probably get there faster if we didn’t fetishize old video games
oh no this isn’t a remake it’s a seqiel
i think i really like this despite the mechanical problems?? the “kill 5 rats” sector 8 side quests are baaaad but nothing important seems to be hidden behind them so i feel ok ignoring all that shit
sector 8 is gorgeous & i have no idea how this even functions on my “i bought this to play bloodborne” original ps4 lol
i love how random npcs can’t stop talking about cloud’s silly ass sword
all the new/reworked plot stuff seems like anime nonsense but i didn’t really have high expectations on that front so i’m just rolling with it
i might be exactly the kind of Gamer Trash this is meant for tho. i can ignore all the problems because i get emotional when i hear the theme coming in while i walk thru the slums at night
it was really losing me with the “cloud gets lost” bit of episode 2 and then I hit the slums which are really good but immediately languid and the main cast’s english line readings were killing me
I like how heavy handed the politics are and the main supporting cast are enjoyably sketched for what they are though
idk i’m mostly fine with the writing because it doesn’t totally seem to be taking itself that seriously? everyone constantly dunking on cloud for being a broody anime protagonist & him getting his sword stuck trying to draw it in a fuckin motel room (in an otherwise Serious Cutscene) make me feel that at least the non-nomura staff are having fun with this
