BlazBlue Central Fiction (Steam) and BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle (PS4 + Steam) are getting rollback netcode. Beta for BBCF starts tomorrow. Final patches should be out by February (CF) and within 2022 (Tag).

I was really into BB around the BBCS days (AKA 11 years ago, WTF?). Is Hazama still viable in CF? Do any of his elevator combos still work?
This news has me really kicking myself for passing on BBCF when it was on sale for like $8.

I’m in a similar boat being really into BBCS back in the day but only ever checked out CF on the Switch of all things. Might dip back in although Celica is now the only character I enjoy.
There is an ongoing sale for the next week on Steam for GG and BB’s rollback-enabled titles so you can snatch things up pretty cheap now (but not as low as $8)
I am on floor 9 with leo and really need to get in the lab and practice combos

soul calibur 5 had a mode where you could fight against hundreds of pre-made create-a-souls in a kind of fake online setup. i liked that a lot.
the problem with playing online agaisnt real people is that instead of seeing people’s cool ocs, you’re more likely to see one cool oc for every two hundred shit unfunny joke character

I have not Soul Cal 6-ed but the revelations that online is all character creation and that character creations are mostly jokes gave me whiplash.
i think there are “no created characters or edited costumes allowed” lobbies too.
since changing the height of created characters slightly alters the speed and damage of their attacks, and also some people moan that edited costumes are too distracting
The height affecting attacks is kind of cool. It reminds me a little of Dragon’s Dogma. I kinda wonder what a game would be like if they leaned into that. I think they’d have to tone down Soul Cal into more of a fighting simulation than the spectacle that it is, but… I’d be super into it.

I think the truth is that it can take a lot of effort to make something cool, so most people are going to make easy jokes that have an immediate impact or copy existing characters from fiction where you have a design to follow. And most people don’t really have any cool ideas in the first place. So any create-a-character matchmaking is going to be filled with boring or derivative things, just like most creative mediums. Not everyone makes noteworthy work, and that’s probably ok.
