FGC##201Xrd Reload[st] - Now on Steam! (Part 1)

The Switch version doesn’t seem to be using the gougi system and instead is integrating some of those mechanics some other way into game, so it’s going to be a bit of a different game from the PC version (and I think Arika had said as much. The existing FEXLs won’t get “updated” to Another Dash because AD is being considered a different game.)

That said, the gougi system was basically just grooves from CvS2, or any other similar system. In early development builds Arika experimented with letting you build your own “deck” of gougi/gems/skills/mechanics but by release they decided on just making a specific set of gougi decks you choose from. Each ones gives you special abilities or additional mechanics, and some of those appear in multiple decks. But you just choose them like you choose a groove.

It looks like in FEXL AD they may have just made some of the gougi mechanics into core mechanics, but I don’t know if there are details yet as to the scope. I can’t imagine every gougi skill will become a core mechanics so maybe some will just get removed? I guess we’ll see.

Also I read somewhere the game is launching with delay based netcode and rollback will come sometime after release.

Ok cool, yeah I watched a top 4 of the old version and one player was using a deck that steamrolled everyone as long as they didn’t use any meter before their stuff activated. They didn’t really explain much beyond that.

You sure they weren’t talking about the original FEXL? Rollback was patched into the PC version last year and the PS4 version around the time of the first JP fighting game devs’ stream, so it would be strange if this didn’t have it at launch, but I dunno what their lead times are I guess

this is good and helps me understand why i’m clicking with strive in a way i didn’t with Xrd/rev? i’m a relatively casual fg player who hasn’t invested a ton of hours in a non-SF game, so of course this feels more comfortable for me

i bet this is still too overwhelming to me but i may at least try it now

fwiw i was mostly playing May who might be the most gorilla-brain character in this? dunno if it was just the level of players i was matching with and how new the game is but i was able to win a surprising amount of situations with her slash & heavy slash normals, especially when pressuring opponents in the corner

can’t wait to keep bonking my way up the ranks

Let’s ask GG champion Omito.

No, it seems to be Another Dash. Not sure what the reason is- maybe their implementation is too intensive for the Switch’s CPU? I feel like I heard the CPU being a limit for some other rollback implementation on another game (maybe Code Mystics’ stuff).

That said, I just remembered that April Fools last year Arika temporarily patched FEXL to play wildly different from what it is normally and I think that included the removal of Gougis. It was apparently something that felt more in line with Street Fighter EX and I recall reading someone saying (can’t verify if this was true or not) something more in tune with what Arika had originally sought to make before they start going wild with the gougi stuff.

I found some write-up on Steam that covers some of it, but at the time I had wondered what Arika’s plan was since it was odd of them to essentially redesign the entire game but only make it playable for a day. I guess they’d been working on Another Dash.

bo5 rounds is common for arcade games that cost 100y to play. In competition most games run bo3 rounds except Tekken.

this seems wildly auspicious

not the most optimal combo i can do, but i was too busy shaking from pulling off this parry

also real fucked up that we live in a time where street fighter v is actually good now

is it? kind of tempted to see if bison is fun to play yet or pick up dan

haven’t played as bison or dan, so i can’t answer that. but there have been some changes to character balance, and hit boxes actually make sense now. v-shift seems like a pretty good mechanic, but i’m still trying to get used to how it works.
