I don’t think my eyes could handle the DS version. I can’t see straight on the best of days.
The very fact that Arika loved the game enough to try and port it twice, before conceding and turning it into something unique from it’s arcade counterpart is a testament to the original design.
I like Ketsui, but it is not my fav Cave game.
The DS version is fun.
This reminds me of Tetris The Grandmaster’s audio cues for different incoming pieces and while those games are too intense for me I’m similarly glad this community voted one of them in just because of that accessibility angle, whether intended by the devs or not.
FFXIV is better than Ikaruga because it has Einhander in it, which is also better than Ikaruga.
ikaruga got in because it’s the stg that non-stg fans have played, and all the stg fans have different favourites

Ikaruga may have been the first game I bought because of Insert Credit / selectbutton. Selectbutton has not gotten me to buy Final Fantasy XIV. Winner: Ikaruga
I bought GTA3 cuz someone online told me “You can hijack any cab you see and start playing Crazy Taxi.”
Game was miserable and it seriously made me depressed and I sold it after 3 days but that is why I bought GTA3.
Was the PS2 version of Crazy Taxi not out at the time?
It came out a few months earlier and I remember folks saying it wasn’t as good as the Dreamcast version which I just assumed to be true since Acclaim published it and also cuz everything was better on Dreamcast cuz Dreamcast was cool.

Thats exactly what it stands for! And thank god, otherwise we’d all have to say shmup and honestly that is just heartbreaking. Shmup people who say shmup in shmup vids are the worst.
Sometimes I pretend it’s ShooTinG. I think it originated in Japan.
It’s better than shmups, which is maybe the most unappealing Euro game mag word of all time. Though it is fun seeing people constantly misspell it.

“Shmup” feels like a major outlier in my vocabulary considering how strongly I feel about “S N E S” vs “Sness” but what is life if not a pile of contradictions to pore over
I also genuinely suck at those games and don’t plan to ever get better so I have no emotional stake in the nomenclature. I bet if I really sat down and got intimate with dodonpachi daioujou I’d start to feel differently
I usually just say “shooter” or “S-T-G” when talking about them out loud. I can say “shmup” but there is always like a pause for me to say it.
Final Fantasy XIV’s existence has gotten me a ton of art commissions so due to it making me and other artists rich I’m voting for it
This is another one of those cases where the best version is on Dreamcast as the home version of the arcade hardware (I think it even had RAM loading text straight from the Naomi OS left in) but I’m curious to see if you could play the PS2 one with the neGcon, my favorite mini steering wheel for nerd-paraphernalia-cramped shut-in rooms like my own.
The DC version of Crazy Taxi made the drifting so much easier to do than the arcade version.
