Every Extend Extra! Extra! (News Thread)

the worst part is I think panic kind of knows but they’re marketing this thing anyway

like I wouldn’t want to draw Bennett on this for example but as I’m sure his game was commissioned back in 2019…

its definitely got a pre covid we see eachother in the fleshzone whimsy that has basically completely eroded since they started working on it

kind of like how I keep hearing that johann sebastian joust is the “greatest game ever” but is only ever played at game developer conventions under certain conditions

anyone who is saying that about JS Joust (which to be fair - i have def heard before as well) is HEAVILY drinking the kool-aid. lmao. that whole trend of boutique games that were like “reinventing” the sorts of hippie new games movement games you’d play in gym class was kind of annoying.

and yeah i think the Playdate was prepared to go earlier and then the pandemic hit and that’s probably why 2022 has become The Year Of Handhelds with the Steam Deck and this coming out close together.

Now I feel even sillier for ever procuring a Playstation Move solely for this game

you can still use the PS move controller for cooler things like editing stuff for Dreams. I have always wanted to try that.

it works surprisingly well!

honestly, editing stuff with the just the controller in dreams works surprisingly well too. what a marvel of engineering and design locked in the walled garden of playstation :frowning:

I am STILL baffled that they didn’t like, deliberately use Dreams launching late in the PS4’s lifespan as an opportunity to ship it as a pack-in title or even part of the core OS on the PS5, and I feel like the failure to do so is emblematic of everything about the PS5 that kind of sucks

feels like right about where everyone lost the narrative

there have definitely been past examples of Sony consoles having a spectacular end to their lifecycle which appears to then completely vanish as the next generation has to, like, rebuild tech hype from first principles – both the PS1 and the PS2 were like this to an extent, which proves you can come back from it, but boy, it’s later than you think

I still can’t get over how good VR was from like 2017 - 2019 (or from superhot to alyx, marginally outside that range) and then seemingly totally exhausted after that

It is also strange how the Quest 2 hasn’t really changed the adoption in a visible way. The mobile processors are still not good enough and the gap between 360 video and games-for-gamers is too vast.

Porting RE4 and GTA is practically the death knell for software. I hope people keep making cool small stuff

The Playdate makes me so mad

I would be very pleased to receive one for free… it’s kind of hard to make myself care about it beyond that.

I like JS Joust :frowning: granted I’ve only played it like… three times in the last ten years.

Two of those times were at game developer meetings, but one time was at a party!!! full of game developers

Was just thinking this today. God Dreams is like great and should just be part of Playstation full stop.

sony seems very reluctant to abandon charging 60/70/…80? dollars up front for everything

It’s gonna suck to be Media Molecule when they decide they want “a Roblox”
