RERELEASE THE JEANS EDWIN
Erik Wolpaw wants to make Portal 3 but he and the rest of the development team might be getting Too Old.

Somehow my mind goes to when Campo Santo got bought up by Valve, then their game got cancelled, then part of the studio went on to make Dota Underlords before scattering to the wind. But when the lead writer canāt get developers interestedā¦hmm
There are certainly enough talented developers to work on a Portal 3 but none of them will have enough of a resume to get hired at Valve.
thereās a reason Chet left
the youtuber MetalJesusRocks who a friend of mine referred to as āThe Gregg Turkington of Videogame Youtubersā (in that he is blandly positive about everything) was not, in fact, blandly positive about the Playdate:
canāt be any hidden gems for it if everyone gets all the games with it
Knowing that MetalJesusRocks doesnāt like it makes me think itās now more likely to be good actually.
Iām excited for the handwringing once the games are dumped and the SDK emulator is jailbroken
to me it just seems like another overpriced boutique object with some kinda neat original games, small screen, and no backlighting. i also just never bought into the hype to begin with. esp with the way they tried to legally threaten someone i know who ran an event called āPlaydateā before their handheld ever existed. and yes, i know they eventually apologized after enough people complained. still doesnāt change my impression.
Iād forgotten about the name bullying, that was particularly odious.
Iām in for a pound already in any case.
I thought it would be bigger, and backlit, and that theyād send me one for free, their loss, now Iāll never promote cranking it
Iāll solder a rotary encoder onto an arduinoboy just for you
I honestly, objectively think they got too cute with this thing in light of like, the current climate for boutique electronics
it feels like obsolete prestige
oh the size is way worse than I imagined in my head. what is this a game console for ants
One hundred seventy nine US dollars
I might call this a fair price considering the dismal quality of cheaper handhelds, probably bested only by the 2DS which nintendo can sell for under $100 because theyāre nintendo and have been manufacturing them for half a decade. this thing also comes with its own development software for noobs like me who would probably get a kick out of playing their own games on a handheld if it was like, the actual platform that I wanted to develop for. the only other handheld i can think of like this is that one with the awful membrane keys built for pico-8
of course I havenāt even touched the thing yet so this is just speculative
I guess Iām basically just defending mobile as a better platform huh
I would port Race Drivin to the playdate
with the crank
now all the cars are
but streets of fire exists already and itās perfect
yeah theyāre uncomfortably tiny and i donāt even have particularly large hands?
it was charming as a boutique gimmick thing but it feels of a moment that was 3 moments ago? when like, weird bespoke parts sourcing was reasonable, i would actually want to touch a strangerās game boy, and these āconversation piece at a social eventā games made sense
