Nowadays, for playing a game in a PC you need a Pentium 200 MHz, 32 Mb of RAM and a fast graphic card. If you haven’t got these requirements, you can`t play the game.

All that money could be going to fonts!

I realize that some people who “play to have fun” and who currently form the majority of players have voiced their reservations toward these new trends, and understandably so. However, I believe that there will be a certain number of people whose motivation is to “play to contribute,” by which I mean to help make the game more exciting.

with this new focus on not having fun, I expect a big future for the SaGa series

Impudent fools who “play to have fun”, let me be clear:
I AM THE SQEX SHACHOOOOOO, AND I WILL MAKE YOU “play to contribute”, YOU ABOMINATIONS FROM ANOTHER WORLD, EXTREME VOOOIIIIIDDDD

in best Valkyrie Profile voice over.
Obv just j/king, never would these cash grab monsters remember their backlog heritage, if it isn’t for a new F2P, NFT-fueled gacha promo tie-in mobile release of a SaGa game.

If you’re not earning and contributing, are you really playing?

my prediction is that nfts in games will be inescapable throughout the next decade and they will either fail horribly or redefine what videogames are in such a way that this message board becomes a retro games board lol

Traditional gaming has offered no explicit incentive to this latter group of people, who were motivated strictly by such inconsistent personal feelings as goodwill and volunteer spirit.

i know that this is talking specifically about user-generated content but it’s so funny both as like the natural endpoint of metrics dev, all these quant guys finally giving vent to their frustration that they’re stuck working the murky territory of volition and desire instead of dealing with Rational Market Actors, and also because inconsistent personal feelings of goodwill and volunteer spirit have already proven 100% better at maintaining square enix’s own back catalogue than the company itself

It looks as beautiful as it is useless

i’m also at a bit of a loss as to what this means coz like, you do in fact get shiny mounts and special privileges if you get enough ‘player commendations’ from being helpful or convivial in ffxiv

Nobody bought the “NFTs will let you take Excalibur from FF5 and use it in CoD Warzone” thing so now all the chuds have moved on to a more heinous and vague (so harder to criticise) bulletpoint of last year’s iteration of the crypto/NFT banner which is that monetizing fucking everything is the only way to bring people together and to motivate and nurture communities. It’s sad that so many people out there are so completely alienated from any sense of camraderie or socialisation that “$150000 monkey jpeg with a discord invite attached” feels like a normal way to gain access to a friend group. Remembering the G4TV guy ranting live and saying stuff like “well fuck me for giving a shit, right!!” because his grand vision for healing online was twitter but favs are NFTs. I’m already seeing people online defend Matsuda because supposedly his letter means he’s going to use the blockchain to make social gaming not toxic anymore or something.

The only hope I have about this entire situation is that Crysta sucks and all of Square’s online stores might as well be blockchain-based already in the way they take a month to load or do anything on and FFXIV’s servers broke when they tried to increase player inventory sizes so I can’t see how they would implement NFTs into that game. I think as recently as two months ago you couldn’t even have two Mogstation tabs open at once.

It’s so, so funny how this exactly reveals & exploits a flaw in executive-brain, the necessary ability to remove personal taste and judgment in favor of data like engagement, sales, team competence.

It’s incredibly obvious to everyone who has ever bought or cared about art that all these NFT projects have abstracted away the actual underlying art and none of them can even realize. That they only churn out terrible, terrible work because it’s an environment of sellers closed in on itself without any consumers involved. And in exactly the same way that the terrible quality is invisible to them – because if it’s selling high, if the Discord is popping off, it must be real art that people are into, yeah? – it can’t be recognized by big, Serious, institutional actors, these C-level directors, who long ago struck out their own eyes to try to view objects in a purer way.

This morning I virtually ran into somebody on social media whose Big Idea was that we need to put cheevos on the blockchain. As if it wasn’t already a perfect parody, their pinned image was a cartoon about how gamers who hate NFTs will see the light when they’re given $10K in seed money, apparently completely missing that people will do or say a lot of things when given a large amount of cash?

so I’m confused does this mean someone is gonna start paying me for my work dropping combos in anime fighter training rooms or have I been fooled yet again. I’m already in discords, is that the secret
