Always had a fishy feeling about exA-Arcadia but them making MAME pull support for Akai Katana and Saidaioujou following their arcade reissues is a bad look:
Naturally this has blossomed into a fight between people who prioritize preservation and people who prioritize the survival of the arcade business

This has also historically been an issue with the TGM games, although TGM and TGM2+ support came back during 2020 inexplicably

the grass was supposed to grow in real time so you could see what a good job you did mowing
the way the glass breaks in max payne 3 was a bully thing
you were supposed to be able to enter or break into any building on the map and NPCs would remember if you fucked with them or not
also a good article about rockstar being useless

The thing that appeals to me about those late Cave games is that they ran on proprietary hardware in good ol 4:3, 240p, 15kHz, low res audio…it was the end of an era. The xbox 360 ports were in HD too so mame was the only way you could approximate that experience

I feel like the only time (post-DMA design) that rockstar was managing to ship a lot of interesting fun projects at once, implying at least some small amount of cooperation and resource sharing, was in the period between GTA4 and 5, and it sounds like this project had the misfortune of being greenlit just a little before that era and getting cannibalized as a result
