Iāve been lurking on the āIntellivision Amico Clubā Facebook group for a few weeks and the fans are in such denial, itās fascinating
If I had a Briāish pound for every essay Iāve received whining about MTX or lootboxes only to disclose that the author has 100s of hours in Genshin Impact or w/e - Iād be able to afford that new skin in [game].
One whined about how Warframe requires the player buy inventory space because itās unfair but then went ahead and bought more inventory space
well, of course, you have to be deep in the mud to know how bad it is to get stuck in it
had a good laugh at a guy doing a video about the predatory mechanics of gacha and the various methods they use but uses Genshin the target example because half of the things he brought up didnāt reasonably apply (him going āwell devs constantly change the meta to favor new units so youāll pull for themā making me laugh w/r/t Genshin and then also making me depressed because the Genshin meta will never change)
this was my main takeaway. Iām shaking, Iām crying, Iām losing sleep, I canāt live knowing this, I-
come play +R instead, itās more fun
i was watching this new video by the slightly obnoxious/clickbaity youtuber Karl Jobst who i nonetheless still watch sometimes, which started with -
and iām like - huh? what does this have to do with FF7 speedrunning? also wow, what a a really hack intro. maybe heās going to make a point about how these things are subjective and itās up to people to determine what they believe is the best but that FF7 is one of the most beloved. or maybe heās using it as a way to misdirect you and heās about to transition the subject into something more frivolous that is only partially related. okay, i think i know where this is going.
immediately after i unpause the video:
ā¦oh.
imagine being the type of person who is like āof course as a Gamer we can Objectively Scientifically come to the conclusion that Ocarina of Time is the greatest game of all time and i think you all can agree with me this is true because uh Metacritic says soā like itās just an uncontroversial point made in the midst of a video thatās not even about that.
anyway iām too desensitized to gamer nonsense to have my day ruined by this. iām mostly just confused.
oh dang this isnāt even a joke, wow. weird.
Iām excited to announce that Bandcamp is joining Epic Games, who you may know as the makers of Fortnite and Unreal Engine, and champions for a fair and open Internet.
Bandcamp will keep operating as a standalone marketplace and music community, and I will continue to lead our team. The products and services you depend on arenāt going anywhere, weāll continue to build Bandcamp around our artists-first revenue model (where artists net an average of 82% of every sale), youāll still have the same control over how you offer your music, Bandcamp Fridays will continue as planned, and the Daily will keep highlighting the diverse, amazing music on the site. However, behind the scenes weāre working with Epic to expand internationally and push development forward across Bandcamp, from basics like our album pages, mobile apps, merch tools, payment system, and search and discovery features, to newer initiatives like our vinyl pressing and live streaming services.
Since our founding in 2008, weāve been motivated by the pursuit of our mission, which is to help spread the healing power of music by building a community where artists thrive through the direct support of their fans. That simple idea has worked well, with payments to artists and labels closing in on $1 billion USD. And while over the years weāve heard from other companies who wanted us to join them, weāve always felt that doing so would only be exciting if they strongly believed in our mission, were aligned with our values, and not only wanted to see Bandcamp continue, but also wanted to provide the resources to bring a lot more benefit to the artists, labels, and fans who use the site. Epic ticks all those boxes. We share a vision of building the most open, artist-friendly ecosystem in the world, and together weāll be able to create even more opportunities for artists to be compensated fairly for their work.
Whether you joined Bandcamp recently or have been with us since the beginning 14 years ago, thank you for being a part of this incredible community, and we look forward to serving you for many years to come!

Bandcamp co-founder and CEO
nightmare world
I think there was some gamefaqs tournament poll thing over a decade ago where OoT won and itās been my impression that a lot of STEM-oriented gamer types have just taken this as objective proof that itās the Best Game Ever.
Also I think someone told me Karl Jobst has weird white supremacist leanings or associations? did I just make that up?
edit oh god he references the gamefaqs poll immediately after as evidence that final fantasy vii is the only game that can challenge it lmao never mind
Will they now sell you auto-generated Fortnite skins based on bandcamp music files ala Monster Rancher?
iām thinking i should just do a terre thaemlitz thing and just self-host all my music and if people want to pay for a physical copy thatās cool, itāll take 2 months for me to make it and send it to you
man I thought I had been completely numb to horrid corporate buyouts and mergers but bandcamp being bought by epic games (of all fucking companies) really stings in a way that I didnāt think I could feel anymore.
No, you did not just make that up (but Iām too lazy to gather the receipts right now (maybe after work idk))
live by the platform die by the platform
yeah this sucks shit. epic using their fortnite money to diversify like old-timey railroad barons, iām sure itāll end well for everyone involved
Iām picturing tim sweeney riding on the back of a horrible golem called ogg vorbis
if terry pratchett came back from the dead and saw what people are doing in his name, heād never stop throwing up
nothing good will come of the company that threw itch.io under the bus during their court case against apple because you can find games about suckin dick on there owning the one platform where queer artists actually get paid for their music sometimes
someone at epic clearly believes they are cool and⦠epic
and they are not
