Every Extend Extra! Extra! (News Thread)

I mean, this sounds like mobile games but they prefer to be cagey about saying so outright to avoid a gamer uproar.

Yeah I googled it and just a few months ago Sony reorganized their mobile strategy: Sony to sell mobile gaming subsidiary for $1bn - Nikkei Asia .

Bungie fits reasonably well in a strategy of “we make mobile games, but carrying over AAA brand prestige, not boomer match-3 stuff”.

Yes please.

And they had this in Border Break which keeps coning up the Source Engine Based team-TPS about mechs. It got a F2P PS4 port like 4 years ago.

How liberally do people use the term “live service”? Do single player games that get one DLC expansion count as live service?

Bring back toro station.

Yeah, along those lines, Gran Turismo games have been getting regular updates with seasonal events since 5 Prologue on the PS3. Does that count as a live service game even though it isn’t a persistent world MMO-type thing?

i imagine like most buzzwords it is used only precisely and in the interest of truth

In production terms it usually refers to a game with an open-ended post-release schedule. They’ll launch with enough content in the conveyor belt to supply it for the first year and then continue evaluating whether to extend it based on audience engagement.

Gran Turismo Sport absolutely counts as live service under any definition I’m familiar with.

For a single-player game like Assassin’s Creed, this means activating the BUILD QUESTS and BUILD UNDIFFERENTIATED LEVEL GEO machines as long as you can. I think in this generation we’ll start to see even these single-player games take an interest in doing story content in a seasonal way, too.

RIP Japan Studios.

The best early DLC was paying so Toro had a roof instead of just 4 walls that did not cover him if it rained in Tokyo.

That it has active weather for Tokyo was pretty neat (if you lived in Tokyo.)

It is weird that Gran Turismo is still a racing game and not a “touring” game

I would love if Polyphony took a page out of the Kojima book to declare a genre they’re founding

They’d probably have to adopt outsourced assets creation for the environment, though

Polyphony is a dictatorship and Kaz is a circuit racing nerd

I like the old man car expert coffee shop stuff in 7 though that seems neat let me drive up to and away from the coffee shop Kaz

I think had the freak out around GT Sport not happened (or had Polyphony communicated the intent more clearly than they did), we would be seeing a multitude of GT titles centered on different aspects of car culture

But no, they got forced back to making numbered entries that fit into the existing formula

if Yamauchi loves cars so much why won’t he let me marry one

I haven’t followed the racing threads here recently, but I recall a while back people here being pretty negative on modern GT, especially in compared to Forza. Has that turned around at all, or are people mostly just interested in 7 for now because it’s a new game?

This is Choro Q erasure.

I’ve barely ever played Gran Turismo but it’s still defined my image of what a racing sim should be- in that it has to have jazz fusion in the menus.

They (edit: had previously) cut out a lot of the fun quirky stuff like used cars and oil changes and really overemphasized driving tests but they seem to have moved back to the formula of an extremely pretty gt4

Forza Horizon is maybe more varied but it doesn’t look like you have radio DJs screaming at you constantly so that will be very welcome. Looking forward to a more uhh sedate racing experience.
