false alarm, there are some (legit bizarre) fixes for some of these soft locks

Halfway there

My method is to use left-stick and mash X to place 3 waypoints right next to the roundtable, then finally warp there

I keep thinking I must be in the late game and while cleaning up a previous area I accidentally warped to the actual far east of the map and holy shit this game is gigantic. How is there just always more of it? And it’s all honestly very good? How

I’m not unsympathetic to people unhappy about how many filler areas there are in this game but honestly I’m constantly finding cool shit. I’ve wiki’d specifics on occasion (ā€œI’m dying all the time where do I find the thing to upgrade my weaponā€) but I’m mostly exploring organically and it honestly feels like around every corner there’s just a weird cool thing to look and and probably get killed by

who would have thought, after all that diligent chore completion in his name, pledges of fellowship, Mohg the Lord of Blood would turn out to be an untoward, antagonistic entity.

I found it a big downer when I beat the Capital and was rewarded by (what I perceive as, anyway) a new region made of 80% filler. The couple of hours of mapping it out had me seriously questioning whether I’d played my fill of Elden Ring and should now quit while I’m ahead.

I’m mostly mentioning it because it turns out to be a very temporary lull, like say Chrono Trigger’s future (another infamous moment where a high drama plot is followed up immediately by aimlessness). And people being so cagey about late-game spoilers made me question how many good parts there were left. So if anyone else has the same reaction to that bit, I can honestly say to just don’t get too annoyed at the filler and keep playing, it gets better again soon.

they should have made the ending to this the protagonist walking out onto a vast, un-completable field of completely endless algorithmic combinations of rocks and grass and single-chest ruins, catacombs and tunnels, log out if you dare

At one point in that region there’s a Fort where three regular enemies have names floating above their heads, in a slightly desperate attempt to give the identikit location some personality

I joke, but I also have to admit that the little human touches do make the filler in Elden Ring way better than Bloodborne’s chalice dungeons.

Is that area as optional as Chalice Dungeons?

Well, the fort itself is optional. The whole area, at least it can be galloped through very quickly if I know where I’m going, so I think I’d be able to do a second playthrough focused on my favorite areas.

kind of hate that you have to do this individually for several different categories

I was able to brute force my way through the whole game with a big ass sword and mimic tear up until the haligtree and sewers under the capital and now it’s turned back into dark souls and wants me to learn to sword fight for every little encounter every five feet so I’m starting to get sick of it

those sewers are utterly trivialized by the erdtree greatshield trick (set yourself on fire and then you can shoot bolts as much as you want)

Great disapontment when I founf my 2nd minor Erdtree in west Limgrave, after the one in Weeping Peninsula… no boss D=

[edit] killing all the big bears around it was not a suitable replacement, just a bit monotonous [/edit].

the sewers didn’t end up being as big of a hassle as thought, this haligtree place though. getting killed by mortal kombat ninja palette swaps of the very first enemies in the game. been awhile since putting anymore into stats got a noticeable benefit too. ending up losing all my runes and just running through the place picking up the items. I’m wanting to be done with this 100 hour long game I got to turn off every other program to be able to see enemies for already! think I’m just running out of steam here, which happened with sekiro too but that was after a tough boss gauntlet at the end at least. this game is pulling the ol’ rope-a-dope strategy on me
