Elden Ring (Part 1)

My y-dpad binds are horse, jellyfish, wolves, and furlcalling remedy, since i use them frequently but they are sorta “noncombat” so it felt right.

Curious to hear what other people bound to those slots as well

I have a lot of trouble with the Y+ moves. The timing of how you synchronize the presses is weird and I keep fumbling it. I also dislike how it makes me take both thumbs off both thumbsticks. On top of that, it doesn’t allow putting an item in both the pouch and the normal quick-access menu at the same time

So I only use the pouch for horse whistle, which I’ve remapped to Y+left-stick-click

Do you find yourself using the memory of grace? Can’t really say I’ve ever used the darksign in a souls game. But this game doesn’t seem to have homeward bones (disappointing!!!)

I’m glad they removed homeward bone. It was a boringly conservative choice you could always reach for when in trouble. Being stuck in the middle of nowhere with too many runes is more exciting now

My pouch has anti-poison medication, the Bloodborne lantern, my single magic refill flask, and a three soldier summon.

My main slots are horse, Estus, and wolves. I have to keep the wolves there so I can see when they light up.

I have to keep the horse there because I constantly dismount by accident.

Feels like it was a concession for the “teleport anywhere when out of combat” rule that maybe 80% of the game space follows. Still, I mostly used homewards in old games to recover souls from bosses I wasn’t ready for on my initial runs, so the way starting a boss fight locks you into either losing your souls or killing the boss isn’t very nice. I’ve come to accept it as the hubris tax tho

Light up like able to be used? The white gravestone that shows up on the left indicates you can summon, in case you didn’t know (I didn’t until i saw it in a loading screen 12 hours in lol)

When in front of a suspicious fog gate, one option I like to go for is to put down a summon sign. The other player thinks I’m offering to help them beat the boss but I’m really just there to scout lol

I have horse, “hello” speech orb, and my two flasks. I have gotten good at using it in combat. Though holding down on the d-pad, which I didn’t know about, is actually faster.

I started using the y-dpad for flasks because it was so much faster than navigating all my combat consumables to heal and throw shit on the main down arrow menu

I am in love with this method, Left: Health flask, Up: Wicked Physick, Right: Mana Flask, Down: Horse. This makes the most sense to me because I will ALWAYS have need for all of these and this way I don’t need to flip flop between slots. I keep Jelly in the down dpad menu.

I think I put horse whistle on Down because horse whistle was Down in Zelda.

I have wondered the whole game what that little grave icon means.

Minor point but there was a wonderful sense of discovery of when I looked up how many talisman pouches were in the game on sunday and seeing the answer eunamously being 3 then getting my 4th this morning.

preceptor miriam you chase up to the top loop and then just hang back and shoot her with something. sekiro ninja tactics

radahn you just got to get behind him. of course he’s turning his torso around every which way so you can tell easier which is which from that poor hilarious horse he’s riding on. when he’s running around in a circle he’s usually going to be swinging toward the inside of the circle and you just got to wait til he comes to a stop. I only used my horse about midway up the field to get to him faster before he annihilated the summons too fast then when I got to him I got off so I can do my moves. you can run around inbetween phases and start resummoning anyone who died

I hope arcane scaling gets fixed before I actually finish the game, I would like to try a second weapon. though I’m enjoying just running up to everything and lion’s clawing it (summersault attack) and it dies in like 2 hits, maybe 4-5 if it’s a real big sturdy bastard

think I’ve done everything in the lakes area and south of it, that was accessible. all I’ve done in the plateu and volcano is run in there real quick for some gear I wanted. I ran into the capital city real quick for the map.

I got bummed out about the ranni questline, my battle buddy blaidd said he’d meet me underground and we’d fight together once again but he wasn’t there, everyone said “don’t worry about it, he’s on a top secret important mission.” and it turns out they stuck him in jail! which I only found out cause I kept getting likes on a message so I went to check if it was my one at the gaol where I told people to go to the forest first and “seek wolf” (but that only had three likes, so it must be my one telling people to snipe miriam) and when I was there I heard him howling! and you can talk to him and he’s all confused on what’s happening. if you talk to iji he explains he’s like a spirit bodyguard for ranni but he was created for her by the two fingers, so when she goes against them it’s going to drive him insane. poor guy.
