Elden Ring (Part 1)

to be more specific I’ve found two underground regions so far. One accessible in Limgrave in the woods, the other underneath part of Liurnia.

you have to beat both raya lucaria’s boss in order to meet with ranni in the northwest and radhan in order to unblock her quest then the whoooooole underground opens up to you one thing after the next

Sweet. Yeah I learned about the stars thing and blaidd told me to go defeat Radhan so I guess I should focus on that tonight! Can’t wait to see more dope caves and get down into that ocean of nasty rot haha

he took me basically a whole evening (Monday or Tuesday, a lot has happened since) after I resolved to do that rather than spend more time on the boring old plateau, so be warned, it’s probably “out of order” to an extent

I don’t think it’s out of order, I’m getting the impression there’s just a difficulty spike in the midgame where you have to fight Radahn or Draconic Tree Sentinel to unlock fresh exploration area (not counting things like random catacombs). I half-suspect the mountain in the northwest is also available somehow at the same point, but I still have no idea how to get there so I couldn’t say whether it’s also boss-locked or not.

It’s the first time Elden Ring does reward you for throwing yourself repeatedly at a boss instead of “hit da bricks”.

I refuse to spend another second in that place

the harpies are trivialized with gravity magic

This is partly why I use the meteoric ore blade so much. Really effective crowd control. Invites everyone to the party (the getting chopped by me party)

the downtime, cutscene skipping between attempts on the radahn fight sux

?? did you not use the shrine of marika?

damn i thought for some reason your flasks didn’t refresh if you did that, oops

For bad boss approaches, I’ll actually just die right away so that I can start respawning at the stake for proper tries with a full flask inventory. I’ve found that if I’m arriving at a boss with only like half my flasks there’s probably somewhere closer that I can start

Yeah Stakes of Marika are great, I die on purpose sometimes when there’s one nearby. On a cliff next to a Minor Erdtree? No need to check the height, just jump off

still: this boss fight is really bad

find my big list of tips I posted above! it’s the only boss in the game that took me more than an hour and I found it extremely thrilling but it was a whole goddamn lot even so

I like that it’s so different and I love the amount of personality in this fight but yeah it takes a while to get into it and it takes a very long time to get started with my strategy because I gotta run around choosing guys to summon. I keep forgetting where Alexander is, haha.

An interface thing i discovered yesterday: you can hold down on the dpad to reset your item quickslot selection to the first slot. Stupid useful to quickly reach your healing flask

I once reached a new area by falling off a cliff and dying far below next to a stake that I didn’t know was there. It was much quicker than horse-jumping on the sideways tombstones (which is how I fell).

I’ve got all my healing items mapped to Y + dpad, which is such a quality of life boost, I wish I could hack pouches into the old games now

Yeah they brought back the Demon’s spirit to some of these boss fights, and that also means some dog’s breakfasts like the boss of 3-2
