Elden Ring (Part 1)

i beat mergit at 27, so

I beat margit at 30! and still had to jellyfish cheese

speaking of the jellyfish, where the hell do you go to upgrade these useless spirits anyway? I know you do it with the shit herbs from the various underground dungeons, and I have like a million of those and 20 different summons. the game keeps thinking I need a slightly different way to have a ghost helper that attacks for 30 damage.

Progress the blacksmith’s quest, he needs an apprentice who can do the work you need done.

the blacksmith has a quest?

Hmm. Well I can re-spec now but I didn’t realize you can’t put any of the stats lower than your class started with. Really throwing a wrench in my gears here.

Also I found my first illusory wall in a catacomb. And then, later, a summon friend showed me every single one in the magic academy, thanks pal.

Guess I gotta hit every single wall from now on.

happened with bloodborne too

Everyone talks about that picturesque underground river, but I haven’t heard anyone mention the other underground river, which may be the scariest thing From has ever done.

hint: progress the questline with the woman in the shack outside stormveil

solution: you have to get the chrysalid memento from the rotting corpse pile in stormveil castle, bring it to the lady in stormveil shack, and then meet her in roundtable.

Yeah just talk with him and do what he says.

I did all that though

I’ve gotten radahn down to one hit like 3 times

Out of 50

Edit: got him. I can honestly say that the fight was never frustrating – I just put a few audiobooks on and threw myself at him until I got the finest points of it down. Geez.

well, another boss, another fucking roadblock. the boss down south kills me in two hits, same as everything else. it never stops attacking, literally ever. I’ve died 7 times and hit the boss two total times. engaging.

edit: oh, as usual you just die over and over or jellyfish cheese

I can’t stop picking at Stormveil. It’s killing me that I haven’t found everything yet!!

some spoilered tips because this dude is brutal and I think people will initially find the decision to make him a midgame boss pretty inexplicable:

you can fat roll in this fight because you’re on your horse the whole time after the first minute, don’t be afraid to wear heavier armor. I also used the accessory that makes you hit harder at full health because I pretty much had to heal back to full constantly to survive. you need about 600 health minimum to not get one-shot by him.

he’s sort of like sif in dark souls in that he can’t hurt you if you’re in a ~240 degree radius hugging him from behind or the side; the trick is that it’s just very hard to figure out when it’s safe to close distance, and you basically can’t stay in that range without good stamina management and knowing how he moves.

once you figure out a good american gladiator run for the first minute of the fight before your summons have all started to engage him it’s pretty easy to repeat every time; this is probably harder to explain than it is to just learn.

he can be bled and staggered if you have a good strong bleed weapon and you can get four or five hits in pretty quickly. if he gets staggered get off the horse ASAP and just lay into him. if he’s close to half health and you think you have a chance to bleed or stun him, be as aggressive as you possibly can, because once he starts to charge up for his second half transformation, he won’t damage you at all until he disappears, and if you can interrupt him here, you can knock him down to like 20% to start the second phase.

the summons are good and you want 5-6 in play at all times, but you can’t really leave them on their own – occasionally they’ll actually get an impressive combo off on him, but eventually you’ll eat shit trying to resummon them again and again, and in the second phase he’ll just target you with magic if you try to let them tank him too long. I only resummoned several of them once each using my eventual winning strategy, in between the two phases.

to repeat an earlier tip: his back is totally safe. if he ever totally whiffs a slam attack and you’re behind him, you are fine as long as you stay behind him.

The map expanded for me again. I’ve only killed the first main boss, but I’ve explored up to the foot of the Erdtree.

I have a lot of those stone keys now, so I’ve started using them. The first one I tried just unlocked a boss that was too hard for me. The second an elevator that connected two areas. And the third a new area that also ultimately connected two other areas (the jail, which I just finished).

I keep playing this all night even before normal work days.

I just beat Radahn entirely on foot lol. It didn’t cross my mind to check if the horse was available
