managed to upgrade my uchigatana to +14, might be time to progress ‘the main quest’ again
everything i’ve glimpsed definitely supports this statement!
the visuals are hitting me in that strange “not-quite-official souls game” uncanny valley again. it’s too blunt and literal, or something. wondering if it works better at 4k?
yeah this feels more like the movie adaptation of the dark souls stage play
I half third this opinion.
Been thinking a bit like that since I played the network test.
The quantity of “bosses” most of all (and now dual wielding). Fortunately it doesn’t suffer from the DS2 plague of the majority of bosses being mandatory to progress, and that the quantity greatly reducing the quality.
Since you actually search for them, there’s a more rewarding feeling when fighting them.
Also the bosses that do matter actually have insane quality levels so far.
However more and more I feel this game is more of a “FromSoft Greatest Hits”. A bit like KOF98 in it’s time. The best mechanics, the best presentation and animation, the best invokations of previous glories.
Can’t say anyone is wrong when they feel the Stormcastle infiltration doesn’t feel like DeS, or the rot area like Bloodborne, or even myself when saying the bosses animations are made to hit me at the wrong time like DS3. There’s even stealth like Sekiro with that detail they never done on other games that the enemy doesn’t turn around when you approach (silently, but okami was always silent). In fact tho this detail, just like in Sekiro you can even touch the enemy without it noticing you.
I’m having problem though… Observing much resemblance with DS1. Apart obviously from second hand references.
Does this game have fall damage?
Only when not on the horse? Do you…do you have to horse double jump to negate it?
I came to the thread late so I probably missed some discussion, but man does it kill me that you can’t double jump to negate fall damage. It has killed me several times.
wait, these weapons go up to fuckin +14 now?
need that hellboy comic about monkeys with guns except for eagles with swords
+25
This explains so much of the game
I found some quantities of at least Smithing Stone [5] last night. I just pick these things up and think “Wow 5 stones, nice.”
So after a bit of work this is running great except that I’m suffering from the invisible monsters bug. Basically, the logic which dithers monsters if they are between you and the camera is broken, so if they are on the other side of the camera from you they are made invisible.
Says a lot about how long I’ve been playing these games that this doesn’t make the game impossible. Just much harder. At first I was like “Is this on purposes because Dark Souls?” but no.

I mentioned the same thing up thread! Maybe DkS3 already exhausted all the callbacks to DkS1
in case you didn’t see it upthread i had the same issue and resolved it by unchecking the Cinematic Effects and camera auto wall recovery in the camera settings. It mostly works now. I haven’t seen this advice anywhere else though. Maybe I should post it to reddit.
Other folks had to make sure it was running on the right graphics card, or that Docker was closed (what is docker??). Neither of these worked or applied for me though.
experienced a very bizarre glitch on standard PS4 during the Loretta fight where the game suddenly slows down to 3fps for intermittent periods, usually (it appeared) starting when she attacks, but persisting after the fight is over as well. it wasn’t just stutter, the entire gameplay speed was reduced with it (no idea what impact that would have if playing online)
Gonna try this! Thank you!
I beat Margit fairly easily; started pushing a little in Stormveil and was like nah, I want to go back outside and explore some more. I’ve been in enough souls dungeons to know what’s ahead with that one.
There’s this great tension between the polished parts of the game and the periphery, which feels so inelegant but has a sort of rough charm like an early Elder Scrolls game? It’s teetering on that edge where that rough charm and the meat of the game work so well together because it’s serving you a few different flavors of souls with the added benefit that comes with the option of how you want to pace the experience.
just beat margit and so far i kind of enjoy the pacing provided by exploration of the vast sandbox emptiness and template dungeons contrasted with the real souls dungeons though the sandbox element is definitely lacking compared to dragons dogma. the zweihander feels better than ever possibly and giving the horse a double jump was a masterstroke.
I’ve been having quite a weird time with this game because when it came out I was already on the verge of an RSI in my left thumb, so I’m forced to play in short increments. A good chunk of the time, I’m wearing a hand splint to try and mitigate stress on my wrist and thumb. This makes me WAY worse at this game, so I’m really glad that when the splint is on I can just fuck around on my horse and explore the terrain. It’s actually helping me out a lot that this game gives me the option of playing in a much less strenuous way when I need to.
I can sympathize—between my terrible stylus grip all day, a 15 minute sonata movement that takes like two hours to practice and honestly way too much Elden Ring in the evenings my right thumb has been having a time
Btw my physio says to be sure to ice after use!
