Sold my last guitar pedal to afford this thing, first contemporary game I’ve bought in like 5 years and first FROM game since DkS2.

HYPED to spend the next hour in the character creation screen.

I have eye strain from not having played a videogame this much in years, plus I’m carrying around at least ~5 bosses in my head at a time that I haven’t managed to dent, that’s enough to make me slow down

I was able to get the lady’s jellyfish after she took up shop next to the blacksmith btw, in case anyone else progressed that far and didn’t talk to her enough the first time. got to the second big boss, of the academy, though I feel like I haven’t explored the area nearly as comprehensively as the castle

The ability to change what I look like whenever I want is going to suck down so much time.

For instance, today I played as Taylor Swift:

And then in honor of my t-shirt, I become Swift Swift Swift, the Number of the Beast.

My version of Margit was Dragonkin Tree Sentinel. How hard can it be, I’ve killed Tree Sentinels before

If you use group password GOD.HAND the summon signs look like this (ignore the white message in the center!) but strangers can also summon you so if you 100% wanna be with SButts use a multiplayer password

oh hey they fixed the Xbox servers

frustrated by my lack of power I ventured deep into the rot of Caedia and found a slick Meteorite Staff for my astrologer which upped my magic significantly. what fortune. with it and the Hounds and Roger, I was able to overcome Margit. now I am in the bowels of Stormveil Castle, which is some epic level design.

Turns out that secretly happened long ago in Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath.

I may have gotten a little ahead of myself. the most souls I’ve ever had is like 4.5k, and I just killed a boss that gave me 13k

Enjoying it a lot. Random thoughts below:

  • I feel a little weirded out by how much hyperbolic praise it’s getting. I dunno if I’d call it a masterpiece, but it’s definitely better than Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne. So far my feeling is ā€œvery formulaicā€. I love the Souls juice for sure, and it’s not like people loving a game hurt anybody, just an alienating feeling.
  • I feel like someone on this team loves Morrowind. The swell of exploration music every so often makes me very nostalgic and the vibe is very aligned.
  • I’m not particularly impressed by the open world - my favorite design will always be the dense layering of Dark Souls 1, and the padding of open world stuff doesn’t interest me much - but I do like how many directions they give you to explore and how many of them are fruitful.
  • Really nice control improvements. Jump attacking is so useful!
  • I always approach these games as ā€œprank simulatorsā€ where the designer is pranking me personally and in that regard they’re knocking it out of the park. Lots of extremely funny mistakes to make. The gargoyles are so fucked up and evil!!!

I found an NPC at the end of a cave with one cryptic line of dialogue, so I decided to look her up. There’s no wiki entry yet for her or the cave.

We live in exciting times.

Been avoiding reading the thread but wanted to record some random thoughts on the game so far.
I started out as wretched and wow they make that matter here way more than it ever did in DeS/DS. I spent the first few hours of the game running around the map and getting my ass kicked by every single encounter. The first time I was able to make progress was finding a cave with an npc summon right outside a boss fight. Amazing fight because I was only able to win by covering the flank of my much much stronger companion and handling the mooks as he took on both of the boss monsters. Finally got through that after we managed to agro only one of the big dudes and take them out one at a time. That gave me two scimitars and enough souls to get the 3 levels worth of stats needed to wield them which is what Ive been using since, just running around completely naked on my goat horse with a sword in each hand.
I actually love how rare equiptment is in this game so far, it feels like a significant accomplishment just filling up your slots.
I think my favorite experience so far was entering a random building with an elevator and losing my fucking mind as it decended further and further into an incomprehensibly massive lost underground city which revealed an entire underworld on my map. The game is good
