Elden Ring 2

Was able to summon comfortably into the …270s… but it sometimes took quite a while. Wasn’t sure if it was my connection or just matchmaking to another player queued up before me.

It strikes me as one of those Too Popular situations because I’ve had two Friday nights in a row with my regular co-opper end up with a couple hours of workweek shit talk while independently testing weapons and trying to climb certain trees

Speaking of climbing it never ceases to amaze me to see messages written in seemingly Kaizo Mario locations

On Malenia now and am having to accept that I just don’t have the right equipment for this one, time to go grab all the cheesier bullshit things i’ve skipped and level them all up, ho hum

Here’s someone who plugged their Elden Ring cartridge into a Game Genie messing around with the demigods as summons.

the random, spammy boss design in this game feels like: if there are sets of moves you never see, it means you’re doing it RIGHT. i can kind of get into this at times, but i’m not sure how affordable it is for a game that otherwise sags under so much transparently copy-pasted content

Coming back to this after the dust has settled, my enthusiasm to open the remainder of the world map has flattened and I am impartial to the combat. Leyndell was gorgeous, but I felt like it could have been lengthier and more confusing. Climbing the dragon husk and the giant tree roots was a cool moment that preceded some really underwhelming bosses. Not underwhelming in terms of difficulty but just in that I have been tired of the circle button centric combat design for several games now. Fighting Morgott felt exactly like fighting Godrick and Margit but as like, shoto clones of each other. I am still using a mix of longsword/sorcery and I’d put these boss fights in the same category as DS3 and Bloodborne being the least fun to actually play, but that doesn’t mean it’s no fun at all. And I think they’re still elevated by the overall story and world design. I am still really fond of the game’s structure but I’m mostly mad at myself for filling up on all of the optional content too early so that going through the endgame feels more like a checklist.

malenia is ridiculously hard lol, i get absolutely shit on every time she gets to her second phase

also have no idea how to survive her crazy multi-swipe attack, what the shit is that, lol. the only times i’ve survived it are when my mimic tear ash summon takes it on the chin

i’ve summoned help a few times and every time either myself or my friend gets eviscerated by that attack, lol

I haven’t had much time to play lately, but a couple days back that silent guy at the hall finally did something.

an upgraded greatshield is what allowed me to survive her swipe attack. it hits in three bursts — the first is the longest and most dangerous. either block the first burst if you have the stamina, or dash away immediately as you see her windup. whichevee strategy you choose, you pretty much have to dodge the next two bursts… but they’re shorter and much easier to read.

you can apparently dodge the first burst too but the timing is very hard. basically need to dodge into her at the absolute last millisecond.

The unannounced Elden Ring DLC will be a not-so secret overworld (atop the existing overworld) that blends each Souls game from beginning to end and I will never sleep again
